I prefer to be able to see the whole court at once. Different strokes and such. I'm the same way. I appreciate the view from the baseline if I'm looking for technical things but if I just want to watch a match I want to see the entire court

I'd love to see Shoji starts setting this WL, the younger Shoji at libero, Anderson and Mentzel at OH, Smith (Lee) and Holt at MB, Clark at OP. That's also my dream team for Rio 2016 only if they prove themselves in the next 3 yrs over others.
Sander is pretty good at college level but still lacking of international experiences, lots to learn for this kid but he has potential to start in the near future. Same with everyone, i dont understand why Lambourne is still on the roster instead of volunteering as an assistant coaching staff??? He could barely move and his ball control has gone down badly since Beijing. Italians should thank him with a big paycheck for their bronze medal in London, smfh.
Other than that, i'm excited to see how this WL turns out, my pick for the final 4 is Russia, Poland, Brazil and Cuba/Italy.

I'm not sure if it's the best lineup skillwise and experience, but this is the same lineup I would choose based on players I want to see playing.

So what's up with Cuba? Is Wilfredo Leon defecting, or what? I don't quite understand this implication that the Cuban federation have the power to bar him from international play for 4 years....because he's leaving Cuba? Though this seems clear enough -- he and Yoandri Diaz are both out.

Yes, when a player wishes to play outside Cuba as a professional, Cuba federation require 2 years out of national team. After this period this player can sign a professional contract but cannot no more represent national team. Look what happen to Juanturena (Trentino), Leal (Brazil) and most recently Simon (Copra Piacenza)- they were out for 2 long years, but now they can enjoy a bunch of dollars and especially volleyboll fans can vibrate with such wonderful players. Of course this obligation in only into force as the Castro regime is on. One can inagine a team without these guys and now Leon. Its a shame!

Oh so it's about club play rather than international. That makes....slightly more sense. I still don't see why the country you're leaving has the power to restrict you from playing elsewhere.
Is he expecting to return to the Cuban national team at some point? That's why I asked about defecting.

" I still don't see why the country you're leaving has the power to restrict you from playing elsewhere"
Im not sure but i think each federation has the international pass, and has to release it. But the more plausible explanation is the "family issues". Actually, they leave their family in Cuba and to re entry in the country must have a visa, now imagine a player with some kind of dispute...
"Is he expecting to return to the Cuban national team at some point? That's why I asked about defecting"
A player that leave national team to play abroad as a professional is supposed never return to national team. Again, see what happen to Despaigne, Sanchez and more recently to Juanturena. I really dont understand why FIVB allow this anti-democratic rule.

I find it pretty annoying to know that even Canada a country that has never been as traditional as USA is in volleyball will have live coverage of the World League on TV and we won't. NBC sports is going to show only delayed videos of the matches at midnight on wednesday and thursday. USAV should take steps to put an end to this. It's revolting!.

Laola TV might show it live. I'm not sure, perhaps someone can find out. I think the first match is against Polans next week.

Finland pretty dominant over Portugal in match #1, (25-13, 29-27, 25-18). No real shock there.

Canada win their opener against Netherlands (25-22, 22-25, 27-25, 27-25). The Dutch setter was getting away with some of the most ridiculously blatant carries/throws I have ever seen -- only to have a ticky-tack carry called against him at one point. He had 6 kills on the night, and I guess I just remember all of them because it seemed like a lot more.
