I have a hard time detecting humour on the 'net sometimes, so at the risk of ruining it -- that WAS a joke, right?

Kind of sad to not see Priddy/Stanley after so many years. Can't believe Lambourne is still there at age 38 I don't feel like that. Every athlete has to stop playing at some point and all teams have to be renovated too. As for Lambourne, I don't understand his presence there either. The guy is almost fourty-year old now. Besides he had one of the worst performances in last quad. The italians, for instance, scored straight points all the time by serving towards him. Pitiful!. I'm not expecting anything different of that. I hope that Speraw starts only with our young talents in during the course of the tournament. I'm so excited to see this!.

Unless I didn't have a strong enough cup of coffee this morning but is that an old team picture with a new lineup, how embarassing for USA Volleyball.

Speraw has been very clear that he planned to shake things up and develop the new talent we have in the pipeline. This roster represents a real changing of the guard; end of a great chapter, but the beginning of what I expect will be a very exciting new chapter. There are sure to be some bumps along the road, but I expect this group to produce great things!

Guess that reveals who assistant #2 is. I looked in the Speraw thread and didn't see it.
I wonder if that's legit or just a place holder?

Speraw says in the story, “As we project four years down the road, we know we would like still have the contributions of proven veterans such as Reid Priddy and Clay Stanley, who aren’t on the World League roster this year. But veterans have to learn how to manage their training over the next four years so they can peak at the right time.”
This is very smart on his part, to bring in guys like Ciarelli, Troy, Lawson, Clark, and Muagututia for a good look while saving some wear and tear on Stanley and Priddy. It's also smart to give guys like Anderson (who is the USA captain for World League) more of a leadership role.
I see a lot to like with this roster. Ammerman and Caldwell are a pair of young setters with size, which I think was part of the problem in London. Anyone could go OTT on Thornton or Suxho, but that won't happen with a 6'9 guy out there.
I saw a lot of Max Holt this spring at Piacenza. He was the team's best server, and was also a force hitting and blocking. They need to find out if he can be the answer in the middle this season, because Lee and Holmes aren't getting any younger.
My belief is that Ben Patch is the future at opposite, but I don't think he will be ready for 2016, which makes this an important tournament for Murphy Troy, Evan Patek, and Carson Clark. One of them needs to show they can produce in that spot if Stanley doesn't make it to Rio.
On the outside, I'm excited to see what Ciarelli and Menzel can do. Ciarelli's performance could dictate if he decides to stay on the beach, or signs an indoor contract overseas. This may also be the last chance for Paul Lotman and Jayson Jablonsky. Anderson is still young and has a death grip on the OH1 spot, so with Ciarelli, Lawson, Menzel, and Sander in the pipleine, those two guys need to show that they are more than serving subs.
As far as Lambourne goes, I think he's being brought along to help Erik Shoji adjust to the details of international play. With only 12 guys on the roster each weekend, he appears to be more of a de facto assistant coach than anything else.
All Speraw has done is win so far, and he's got 4 former Anteaters on this roster, plus a lot of other guys with recent MPSF experience. He seems like he's got a good plan in place to rebuild this team, and knows what he has out there.

I have a feeling we will see a lot of Thornton and Ammerman at setter this quad, as Speraw won NCAA championships with both as his QB. Hopefully Shoji gets a fair chance as well.

I think Ciarelli has quit indoor in favor of the beach game.. I'm not sure what he is doing there.. He needs to makeup his mind, obviously sperraw probably wants him on the team..

yes but he has missed a full year he should have played in italy. That's a lot to lose in development. He could have been the 2016 starter next to Anderson but I don't think that's possible anymore..

I could still see him starting in Rio. 2016 is still 3 full years away, and its not like he hasn't been playing. He's still passing the ball, taking swings, digging balls, and serving tough. It's just been on the sand instead of indoors. If he commits to playing indoors after the World League, that's three full years in Italy (or another suitable European league), and two more years of World League. That would be enough time to get ready for Rio in my mind. The sand game might actually make him a more well rounded player, since he'll have more shots in his toolbag from playing out there. He'll have to remember how to work around a double or triple block, and the indoor serves are tougher. But he was the 2012 POY for a reason.
