Our boys just dropped a tune-up match...to Turkey.
Can't say I'm too thrilled about that. We did take 2 out of 3, but I dunno, Turkey?

How many 2013 collegians are in the tourney? Is it just Tillie and Marks?

Tkx JNA, really great pics. I see that Stanley and Rooney are there...what that means? About Russia, yes you right about that final, Brazil was smashing Russia, with 2-0 and 21-18 at 3rd set Bernardo Rezende decided to give Giba a chance...oh dear Giba, one of the gretast volleyball players of all times commited 2 fatal errors...yes and then Musersky smashed as opposite!

Why is Ciarelli getting so much love? The guy left his team early this season and missed out on a big opportunity. Yeah he was good in college, doesn't mean he is going to contribute with the A team of USA right now. Alot of these these young guys have a long way to go. Which is why I agree with Speraw giving these young players looks, in order to move their development. But doing that doesn't necessarily mean that they are ready to contribute at that level. Lotman is way ahead of him in my opinion, far more internationally seasoned. Seems like he doesn't get much respect on this board, he is a great volleyball player with intangibles. Ya he's not going to be a top scorer but he's a perfect international OH2 (Anyone remember Riley Salmon? Was he that great of scorer?) I can agree with the other choices, Shoji has proved he can set at a high level and will get chances. Patak is ahead of Troy in my opinion just cause of experience, but Murphy has 2 seasons in the Serie A under his belt so he will be right there.

Tony Ciarelli has less international experience compared to Paul Lotman, but he is no strange to international level. He played during PanAm Games 2011 and did a great job becoming one of the top scorers of team USA even outperforming Evan Patak (the only veteran on the team) in a few matches. He is certainly one of the most expected players on the team (mostly for me!). I'm looking forward to seeing him play.

Speraw has brought in the young crop of talent early in the quad to shake things up. I expect we will see him play a number of different players at each position and see who is going to compete and win the job. Who he starts/plays now is not necessarily who will be starting/playing in a couple of years, as he works to develop the skills and experience of his younger players. I wouldn't count anyone "out" or anyone "in"; with a few notable veteran exceptions, I think there are very few "locks" at this point.

Any video of the turkey match?? I expect this team to have a lot of losses with all these young players.

Canada vs. Turkey? I believe all three are on VBall Canada's Ustream channel. www.ustream.tv/channel/volleyballcanada The first two have a really awful camera angle from directly behind the action. The third gives a much better look, side-on from just offset the net (like most seats at a typical gym).

When did they change from eight teams in the finals to six? Because it absolutely *was* eight at one time. Grr, make me put out 3 months worth of inaccurate content, grumble grumble Now the question is do I just edit it and destroy the evidence?

Personally, I Love it.

I prefer to be able to see the whole court at once.
Different strokes and such.
