Sure, but Giba and Murilo are not and arguments could certainly be made for other players, but you play who you have and Brazil is just not doing it.
Pavlov! No answer or defence for him.

i'm okay with Russia winning as long as Spiridonov doesn't play well. He just got subbed out.

Russia wins the $1,000,000 Gold Medal prize in straight sets. Yay Pavlov!

russia played with absolutely no fear terminating in and out of system, just real smart hitting. they played good defense good serving good setting good everything. brazil in system is unbelievably quick but that came few and far between.

We do have to take into consideration that brazils outsides are very young...not dante obviously but Lucarelli and this other guy that just came in are like 21 or 22 with very little experience at this level. Good learning experience for them but if brazil had Giba or Murilo on the pin...whole different story. PEACE Giba, Dante are all old, passed their prime. Only hope is the pair of Murilo and Lucarelli for Brazil. But with the way the Russian played, like i mentioned before, they will dominate the world for a while. Look at their bench players, so much depth in every position. Congrats to them!!!!

A healthy young Giba maybe. He was on his last legs (quite literally) at last summer's Olympics.
Brazil will be better once they get Murilo back, that's obvious. I think Isac is gonna end up being a top-notch middle, but for now they're probably still better off with Eder, if given the choice. It's nice to see that Dante wasn't badly hurt yesterday. But where was Lucas today? I don't think I saw a single play from him.

I think Russia will have Brazil's number for a couple years, and once Lucarelli and Isac improve with Murilo back they'll have a better chance of winning some matches. Pavlov moves a little faster than Mikhailov so I think he'll stay starting opposite now on?

Pavlov definitely impressed (he was WL MVP, after all), but displacing Mikhaylov, gosh I don't know. It's certainly a nice problem to have.
Here were the other awards, by the way:
Best Setter - Bruno Best Opposite - Sokolov Best Outsides - Zaytsev and Lucarelli Best Middles - Birarelli and Muserskiy Best Libero - Mario
Doesn't seem there were the traditional awards like "Best Server" or "Best Passer," which is a little bit disappointing.

A few curiosities:
1- The same final four of the last OG has repeated in the WL 2013.
2- The same podium of the last OG has repeated in the WL 2013.
3- For the first time after a long Brazil has been beaten in 3-0 by another team other than USA.

Good learning experience for them but if brazil had Giba or Murilo on the pin...whole different story. PEACE Agreed. It was same for our USA boys this go around at WL. Our shaky setting will be ironed out with Lloy, our O2 problems are solved once Karch settles back into things, and the Opp slot gets a whole lot deeper once Timmons and Clay start battling. 2016 should be great!!!! Moving on... Umm...how scary is Russia right now? Not only is their depth absolutely unreal right now, but they are still insanely young. Here are their starters (and Mikhaylov)off their WL Finals roster. Check out how old these guys will be in 2016. Opp- Pavlov (34) MB- Apalikov (33) S- Grankin (31) OH- Sivozhelez (30) OH- Spiridonov (28) Opp/OH- Mikhaylov (28) MB- Muserskiy (27) Here are 7 more guys who were on the 2012 Olympic roster... OH- Khtey (33) Opp- Sokolov (33) OH- Berezhko (32) MB- Volkov (31) S- Butko (30) OH- llinikh (29) L- Obmochaev (27) That's 14 guys under the age of 34 with 9 guys 31 or younger! Throw in the fact that Gold Medal starters Volkov & Obmochaev weren't even at WL Finals and Mikhaylov was a non-factor and it's pretty scary how deep Russia is right now.

Now now. Murilo will be back. His surgery was pretty routine, and he's 32 himself (since 34 evidently counts as young?).
Giba, yes, was kind of a silly thing to say.
