12 Strong, starring Chris Hemsworth as the leading a group of (you guessed it) 12 US Army special forces tasked with helping the Northern Alliance defeat the Taliban and claim Mazar-i-Sharif soon after 9-11. Think it could have been written better. I just don't know how its possible that an American leading the final charge into the enemy stronghold on a horseback does not get shot, while every Afghan around him does get hit. Never mind that everywhere he points his gun and shoots winds up killing an Al-Qaeda soldier. Maybe it happened that way, but the movie made it look to cheesy and typical gung-ho style.

Excellent cast, waste of an opportunity, IMO. I have two friends who worked on that flick - they spent like two months in the middle of nowhere, New Mexico, for the shoot. Came back more than a little unimpressed with the director and executive producer team.

Great cast, great story to tell...not sure if it’s the writers or producers that stunk it up. Maybe both.

Soul, with Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey. Joe Gardner (Jamie Foxx) is an aspiring Jazz musician passing time as a part time Middle School Music teacher while waiting for his big break. On the day he was offered a full-time teaching positiong, Gardner tried out and was offered a position in a Jazz band. Soon after, he met his untimely demise, though escaped passing through the big beyond...and ended up mentoring 22 (Tina Fey), a soul who has a negative view on humanity and find ways to avoid being sent to Earth.
Cute movie, fun too. Its a Disney Pixar film.
First movie I went to see in a theatre since COVID-19 started.

They are taking a risk here. Godzilla losing will piss off Godzilla fans (and Toho studios)... The draw they had in the earlier movie pissed off both fan bases, but at least it kept the studios happy. We'll see what happens. They may need Godzilla back since that underground terrorist group got a hold of Ghidorah's head in the end of King of Monsters.

Working my way through the American film's institute greatest 100 US films. Watched Casablanca, citizen Kane and Chinatown.
Also one not on the list: charade.
Four more In the top 100 on the docket: double indemnity, sunset boulevard, the godfather part ii and guess who's coming to dinner.
Others: to catch a thief, to Sir, with love, , murder on the orient express and gaslight.
The sequel trilogy to Star Wars really soured me on current films. I doubt I will go to a theater for a long time, pandemic or no.

I doubt I will go to a theater for a long time, pandemic or no. I haven't looked at that list in a while. Looking at it, there's a lot of these that I haven't seen. The ones I've seen are Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Casablanca, Raging Bull (great movie, but it's depressing), The Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, On the Waterfront (great movie, and Raging Bull has an homage in it), Chinatown (I didn't care for it much--I much prefer LA Confidential), Some Like it Hot, ET, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Godfather Part II, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Sound of Music, Fellowship of the Ring, Taxi Driver, Jaws, Rocky, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Unforgiven, Saving Private Ryan, The Shawshank Redemption (my favorite movie of all time), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Forrest Gump, Titanic (this movie being on the list at all is an abomination--I stopped taking the Oscars seriously when it won Best Picture over LA Confidential), Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, and Toy Story. There were also 23 movies on the original list that got replaced. Of those, by far the best is Fargo, which is one of the 10 or so best movies I've ever seen.
