All I know at this point is whoever comes in has big shoes to fill from Theis. Marquette gained a talented volleyball mind that will be very successful competing in the Big East conference and even moreso in the midwest than previous years with Bond. Not saying that Bond did not do a great job at Marquette, his team was fantastic this season, but the potential Theis has with the group he is walking into has a definite upside. Theis didn't live up to his last predecessor...why would he be able to buck that trend? Not arguing with you but but this is from the Marquette press release. Theis, a native of Madison, Wis., leaves Ohio tied with current Ohio State head coach Geoff Carlston, whom he replaced in 2008, for the most victories in Bobcats' history with 144.

First name that comes to mind is Kyle Weindel who helped Ohio become the one of the top blocking teams in the nation during his time at Ohio. Weindel now has head coaching experience after taking over at Montana State a couple years ago. He knows most of the current Ohio players and knows the Ohio system of play. Seems like a natural and smooth transition for Weindel and the Ohio Bobcats.

Weindel - no chance. Does anyone really think Lee Maes would even want to move to Athens, OH? This would definitely be a great gig for Keck but with the new Marquette job and the location to her home in Chicago, just seems to easy for her to move with Ryan. Wouldn't this be a good situation for someone like Jamie Gordon to step up in conference/pay/etc.? He has been great at Morehead State. What about Rosenthal or Deane Webb - also very solid coaches.

I've learned to say never say never. But Morehead administration has stepped up big for volleyball and I don't think Jaime would away from the challenge of building his own volleyball only building.

Jaime is treated pretty good at Morehead State but he would get great support at Ohio too (I don't know about a volleyball only facility!) The fan base there is awesome too. Who knows....money talks. I think he'd be a great fit there.

Rosenthal is from Pittsburgh I thought. That would certainly get him closer and make sense. He's a good coach. Jamie Gordon recently turned down an offer from Ole Miss so I don't think he would go to Ohio. Deane Webb has done good things at Belmont. I still think there is a good chance you will see a younger assistant like Gawlik or Virtue getting solid looks.

To me though, Ohio seems like a great situation for some of those others to move up in competition without it being a major jump up (like going right into the fire of the B1G). No question the likes of Gordon/Rosenthal/Webb have done great things AND have great situations. But the MAC is certainly another level up, without being a meat-grinder. And with the setup at Ohio what it is (reputation, support, tradition, even more potential) I would think it would be intriguing for some mid-major coaches.

Isn't Ohio considered mid-major? Albeit a very good mid-major.

Not that it matters a whole lot, but I KNOW who the players at Ohio want to be their next coach. It's Meghan's job if she stays.
I know I know... Players opinions are not usually top of the list, but in this case I would say they are close.

Are Gordon, Rosenthal, Webb, Gawlik, and Virtue interested?

Well he turned down the Pitt job so if the goal is to get close to Pgh and make more money, he wouldn't take OU. They have 4 candidates, three head coaches and one asst from a top program.

I'm surprised this thread has been so quiet... Has Ohio had any candidates on campus? I would think they would want to move quickly with the heart of recruiting season to begin here shortly with qualifiers and such.
