Simply put, who is on Dorothy's WOW list? I think Deane is really good and will do great. Who exactly is on the WOW list? Wait a minute, are you saying Deane is really good and will do great? I seem to remember someone else saying that in a post. Oh yeah, that was me. You did say that - that's great. What was the point then to insert the "not a WOW hire"? You could have said the rest and it would have seemed genuine and supportive. Ever heard of a backhanded compliment? |

Deane was my grandmother's name.
My grandmother knew zilch about volleyball. Hopefully this guy is better.

I think I explained what a wow hire was, and that it would not be related to a great hire. I inserted the not a wow hire because it isn't, and for the third time that doesn't mean it isn't a great hire, and in fact I said it was. Saying he isn't a self promoter, someone who throws his name at every job, but just wins is yet another compliment. If you are committed to my post being an insult, that's fine. But you have to completely ignore the majority of what I have said about Deane to do that. I really think you have grossly missed the point and definition of wow hire. It isn't in any way tied to how good a coach is, or what they will do at that job. Again, if you are committed to my post being a put down of someone I like, and have complimented several times, knock yourself out. Understated is a compliment in my book, self promoter, someone who goes after every job are not. In every way possible, I have complimented Deane. |

rainbow: Deane MIGHT be better than my grandmother. Wow. It was funnier in my head, pre-coffee. My grandmother was not, in fact, the winningest volleyball coach anywhere. So this Deane is already better than Grandma Deane. I have no idea who this Deane is. I'm sure he'll be great for Ohio. I was just giggling over the fact that he has a girl's name (or maybe it's that my grandma had a boy's name). |

I was expecting a flashy hire - big conference associate HC/assistant.
OU has great tradition with their VB program so I'm sure the AD's feel they got it right...that's all that matters.
On another note - I saw their Junior RS from Estonia has already transferred to Duquesne per Rich Kern. Any others leaving the program? Recruits following Ryan? Decommits?

I was expecting a flashy hire - big conference associate HC/assistant. OU has great tradition with their VB program so I'm sure the AD's feel they got it right...that's all that matters. Im certain he would, and I also think he would look at my description of him as a coach and person as a compliment. |
