The movie version of the same name was good, too. John Cusack.

The movie version of the same name was good, too. John Cusack. I remember only three things about that movie: 1) John Cusack was in it 2) it had something to do with a record store 3) I liked it I remember that I liked it, but don't remember anything about why I liked it (except that it probably had to do with John Cusack, who is a fantastic actor).

Taboo (2017)
Tom Hardy show set in 19th century London. The main conflict is between the East India Company, James Delaney (Hardy's character), England, and to a lesser extent, USA. Explores standard British corruption and the misery of the working class.
The show was praised for its pacing but I thought it really dragged on and instead of 8 episodes, this series could've been resolved in 5 or 6. A lot of the scenes involves Hardy's character sitting in a chair or lying down somewhere and having dreams/nightmares/visions of some scary Native American images. It took the wife and me 3 weeks to watch 8 episodes. Lordy...

I've seen lots of great pilots (or first episodes, as sometimes they're not called "pilots"). But Lost has to be #1 and all the other great pilots are tied for 2nd.

I've seen lots of great pilots (or first episodes, as sometimes they're not called "pilots"). Not all shows have pilots. The distinction is that a pilot episode is a proof-of-concept. It's a test. If a series is given the go-ahead right from the start, it doesn't need a pilot.

Why does Bam-Bam in The Flintstones cartoon series have superhuman strength as a toddler but is completely normal as a young adult? According to his Wikipedia article, Bamm-Bamm was just as super-strong as a teenager, but he rarely chose to display it. Yeah, I already read that before I posted my question. I was hoping someone would have more insight.

It's hard to argue with Lost, though I'd put Breaking Bad and Battlestar Gallactica (in this case, the "pilot" is actually the two-part miniseries that leads into the TV show, not the actual first episode once the show was picked up) right up there. There are a few others (The Shield, 24, Game of Thrones, etc.) that are memorable because of a very strong last sequence, but I don't recall those episodes being quite so great up to that point.

Mostly unrelated to pilots (although it had a good one) but Walking Dead comes back this weekend. It was pretty trash for a few seasons but has really picked back up in the last year or so. I've been trying to convince people to give it another chance but it's fallen by the wayside for a lot of people.

Just watched Neon Genesis Evangelion rebuild 1.11 and 2.22, but before I watch 3.33 I am starting the original series on Netflix, on E1 E8 now

I remember really liking the first 3-4 seasons.

Mozart in the Jungle: First episode and a half showed promise but my wife and I gave up hope after four episodes. The Characters are sufficiently unlikable that we stopped caring what happened to them.

The best show on TV, Better Call Saul, returned over the weekend with a pair of great episodes in its fifth and penultimate season.
