I started rewatching The People vs O.J. Simpson on DVD. I stopped watching it the first time several months ago after one episode because I experienced the entire case from the murders-freeway chase-trial in realtime in real life. This weekend, I changed my mind and decided, why not. I think I could've played the role of O.J. Simpson pretty well. Cuba Gooding Jr. was good but I think I can do better. The People vs. OJ is really good, though Cuba Gooding Jr. is a bit of a casting misfire. He's a good actor, but he's not believable as OJ. And since this was probably the biggest news story of the entire 1990s, most people were were old enough will remember what OJ looked and sounded like.

I thought, he's playing F. Lee Bailey? There's no way! I always associated Nathan Lane as a lightweight actor in comedies, e.g., The Producers. But after a couple of episodes, I stopped seeing him as Nathan Lane and saw him as F. Lee Bailey. John Travolta was playing some character but I didn't see him as Robert Shapiro. Sarah Paulson and Sterling K. Brown were great.

In real life, I watched the verdict at a bar in Menlo Park, CA on TV at around 10:00 AM. I was in town for a meeting and I knew the verdict was coming in so I stopped at a shopping mall, walked into the bar, and found myself in a room full of other people awaiting the verdict. The place was 60% White and 40% Asian. (No Blacks.) When the verdict came down, there was a mix of cheers and jeers. After the verdict, I booked out of there for my meeting.

The Umbrella Academy on Netflix is really good if you like superhero shows that aren't what you think they would be.
Plus it has Robert Sheehan which is always a win

This gets me every time. Someone gimme a hanky. I started watching The Office at the beginning about three weeks ago. When it originally aired, I watched the first couple seasons pretty regularly, but am now realizing that I only watched the third season (and, presumably, beyond) only sporadically. I'm nearing the end of S3. It really is a fantastic show...so well written and acted.

Favorite feel-good sitcom that not many people talk about: Wings (1990-1997) - 8 seasons - Quirky characters at a Nantuckett airstrip Loved Wings, always looking for it on iTunes but not available there. Thought the ending was perfect, with Brian willing to take over Sandpiper so Joe can be with Helen as she chased her dreams of being a professional cellist in Europe.

I've recently started watching Game of Thrones for the first time. Wow...it's really well done and pulled me in. I've wanted to watch it for years, and finally just sat down and started watching. I'm obviously aware that I'm very, very late to the party. I'm about 1.5 seasons in at this point. Aside from knowing a few cast members who were in the final season and hearing generally that they're willing to kill off major characters, I somehow managed to be remain relatively unspoiled.

You -- This was a totally random pick. Didn't know a thing about it. I thought it was going to be about some gay guy who's into other gay guys. I just saw the lead actor's face and thought, "Gee, he must be gay." (because he's clean-shaven, neat-looking, perhaps fastidious, seems the sensitive type, and tendency of Hollywood to push gay characters.) I was wrong. I watched the pilot and was really impressed with it. I don't even think he's gay.

I just watched the first episode of Ratched on Netflix, starring Sarah Paulson, and Ryan Murphy is also involved. Very good. It credits One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest for the character of Nurse Ratched, but the story is new. The score and cinematography are both very appealing. Iām already a little hooked. Lol

Just finished the first two episodes of The Right Stuff on Disney+. It's pretty good so far. I knew mostly about John Glenn but was not aware of the reputations of the other astronauts except a little about Gus Grissom.
I know a lot of people don't have it yet but I really liked Ted Lasso on AppleTV+. You get it free for a year when you purchase a new Apple product (you can also get it free for a year if you order the TVision streaming service from TMobile). It's a very likeable half hour comedy with Jason Sudeikis in the title role.

Ted Lasso- no business being any good, but it's fantastic. A show with likeable protagonists and redeemable antagonists. I love Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc but this was a breath of fresh air. Already did a rewatch so my wife could see it.
Queen's Gambit- very good, Anya Taylor-Joy is outstanding.
Long Way Up- third in a series starring Ewan McGregor and his friend Charley Boorman. In Long Way Round they travel on motorcycles (with minimal support) from the UK across Europe, Mongolia, and Sibera to Alaska and down across America. Ultimate buddy road trip adventure show. The second season, Long Way Down follows them from John O'Groats (northern tip of Scotland) to Cape Town. Long Way Up comes 16 years after their round the world trip and has them riding electric motorcycles from Tierra Del Fuego up to Los Angeles. Fabulous show.

Just finished Queen's Gambit yesterday. Very good. Just 7 episodes, so don't have to worry about the series going off in bad directions.
Breaking Bad is one of my all-time favorites. Great from beginning to end.
Mad Men started to go off the rails a bit for me in the later seasons.
Up to date on The Right Stuff - pretty enjoyable. Like Queen's Gambit - I believe it is just a one season (limited series) which I think it a good idea.

I'll third the praise for Queen's Gambit. Taylor-Joy was really good in Emma, too. I didn't even realize it was the same actress, not sure why.
Read the book a long time ago. Tevis wrote some good ones. Ended up at Ohio U for a while (and a friend of my Dad's).

I knew mostly about John Glenn but was not aware of the reputations of the other astronauts except a little about Gus Grissom. I guess that means you can't tell me how closely it follows Tom Wolfe's book. I read the book and saw the movie back in the day. I wouldn't take it unquestioningly as a work of historical fact. For instance, Wolfe definitely paints Grissom as having panicked and sunk his space capsule, but I believe the generally accepted consensus now is probably that Grissom's story was correct, and the hatch did blow open without him doing anything. This was a brand new design -- Shepard's capsule did not have an exploding hatch.
