Hopefully Waverly and Skutt meet at state. That, one would think, would be a great game. It’ll be the closest we get to college volleyball in the Devaney this fall. Any other matchup in the Class B title would be a crime.

It’s actually insane to think about the number of great players that comes out of a state of 1.7 million. Los Angeles county has 10.4

Krause has been pretty much unstoppable tonight to open the season her whole career for Skutt. FIFY

It just means that per capita, the state of Nebraska produces a lot of volleyball talent. bluepenquin had a thread about talent produced by state, and when controlled for population, the plains states were all highly ranked. I think Kansas was #1, then Iowa, and Nebraska was up there as well, IIRC.

Terry Pettit is almost single-handedly responsible for the crazy talent in Nebraska. When he took the coaching gig at Nebraska in the 70s, the state wasn't producing much talent. So he wen from school to school training the coaches how to train their players. Couple of generations later, we have a thriving volleyball scene in this state, and send tons of kids to D1 schools every year.
It's pretty crazy there isn't a statue of Terry Pettit outside the Devaney Center.

Solely responsible is going too far.

I can't imagine Nebraska high school ball is super competitive. Just making sure you Husker fans have seen the Triple Crown 18 Open final (not be confused with the elite bracket, which is higher) which VCN 18 Elite (though half the roster are not 18's) played in against NPJ Forefront. It has the following Nebraska recruits- Meyer (2020), Evans (2020), Lauenstein (2021), and Allick (2022). In addition, they have Glock (USC, 2021). This was one of the last big club events before COVID shut everything down.
It's just one match, obviously, (they ended up losing in 3), but I think it's a bit better look at your future players playing competitive club ball.
Here is a link to the roster for jersey numbers.
