Nebraska recruiting math is crazy.
So many great recruits coming in that they're over on scholarships but they have a small fortune in NIL money that might be able to offset it - then theres talks of pulling scholarships from players to make room for more (can they even do that?) or hoping not just one, but two players transfer OUT to make room (when most, if not all, of us peasant programs are hoping for transfers IN)...

Cook sounds VERY high on Olivia Mauch. I thought she was an absolute rock this past summer for USA. I'm sure we'd love for Lexi to stay forever, but it's nice knowing the backrow is in good hands between the level Laney has been playing, Olivia coming in and then Keri to follow the year after.

I have no idea what the legalities of this are... but if I were coach (we'd be at the bottom of the Big 10...), I would talk to Lexi about exchanging her scholarship for NIL money.
Why Lexi? I'm glad you asked... 1) Everyone knows that no one is taking her starting position away 2) She is a solid team leader 3) She has already experienced the stability of NIL money first hand 4) She would only need 1 year, so if the NIL rules change, it would be after she graduates

But that is not true of transfers, so your idea would work better with Beason. But I think the discussion is academic because Nebraska has a myriad of ways to comply with the scholarship limits, and we will almost certainly not know the path it takes.

Cook mentioned how much Pierce likes basketball...hhmmmm..Amy, do you want another part-time player? one who could contribute I'm sure...

Orr leaving would free one up for the backup setter. That would keep NE at the current status quo, with 1-2 pins SOL, right? We have a freshman (Skyler Pierce) coming in who will be on scholarship, so if Orr is the only one to leave we won't have a scholarship for another setter. We would need someone else to leave along with Orr...perhaps Hayden Kubik? why would we need anybody to leave. Cook said it's being taken care of and I trust that the scholarship situation is being taken care of. let's enjoy this incredible ride, shall we.

They have 12 players on scholarship now, no seniors and a new scholarship player signed for next year. 12 scholarships is the limit. Thus it appears there is a transfer expected. Actually most teams have transfers now, and NE is not an exception. You are correct this is not something to dwell on mid-season, although it came up in Coach Cook's press conference.

Taylor Harvey at Texas again. Follows all Texas coaching staff. I was sure she wasn’t interested in Texas anymore after they got Ames.

I think at least one Nebraska junior might graduate by this spring or summer. I can’t recall if I heard that here.

Should the Huskers go looking for a transfer MB for 2024 given the Ames situation? I think we’re still pretty thin on MBs and are quite stacked on OHs. Perhaps a Graduate transfer?
