Hunter is a '25 recruit. So she won't be there next season. But Beason will be. Right, I corrected it. I was referring to the potential 2025 lineup since Beason will be gone. I wouldn't be surprised if we brought in a transfer to compete with Hunter in '25. Historically the staff has liked two true opposites on the roster. We should still be very much in the championship window and relying on a freshman or converted opposite does not seem to be the wisest move when you can bring in a transfer with a higher floor. Pierce makes the most sense to train at Opposite this fall while Krause and Landfair battle it out for the second OH spot.

I don't think that's actually a thing.

IMO Jurevicius’ biggest problem wasn’t playing time in 2024 behind, it’s probably seeing Ryan Hunter play… and she will be in Lincoln in 25. Anyone wanting to see Hunter can go to KC in February (17-19) to watch her with her club team. I’m sure the Jurevicius family will be in KC watching Ava play… Joe is a good judge of vb talent. What is the scouting report on Ryan Hunter? I like that she is lefty. Is is likely she starts next year? If not who steps in? Pierce or someone else? I figure Pierce projects on the left long term. Hunter is an elite talent. Will she be ready to compete against the competition in the B1G in 25’?; that’s the question isn’t it? What we do know is that if things stand as they are now, and Hunter starts at OP, she will be surrounded by all-Americans at S, MB and OH and elite backrow players that will enable her to settle into the transition to D1 volleyball. Hunter and her club team should be in KC Feb 17-19 if anyone wants to see her and her club team play. She won’t play her first college match for 20 months, she will probably be a much different player by then. 🏐

This isn't a knock on her upside, I do agree that there is less overall pressure to be productive offensively given the surrounding talent, but regardless, she'll need to block at a high level. No amount of elite talent around her will change her ability to read opposing outside hitters and form a strong block on the RS. Any opposite must bring that to the floor for Nebraska to win a championship (which is the measuring stick for a program like Nebraska).

Having Landfair for two years is big for our 2025 lineup. And the entire 2023 group will be juniors and we’ll have a fantastic trio of smalls to help compensate for losing Lexi. She and Beason are the main losses after 2024 so it makes sense to use the portal for a right side instead of relying on Ryan to be totally ready right away.

We also probably will look for another MB in the portal just like we did this year.

So who’s gonna pull an Ames 2.0 I wouldn't be surprised to see the Nebraska staff give a hard look at their 2025 MB target list (I'd be shocked if Nebraska offered anyone other than Harvey seeing as how they didn't need a middle for the class)...it's the wild west out there these days, and, lets be honest, if Nebraska comes a callin, even this late in the game, I think a lot of players would bite at that opportunity.

Yes she will need to block at a sufficient level, but I disagree totally that the surrounding talent won’t help her. It is always the surrounding talent that determines the actual growth of any player, especially a freshman. I believe she will have stellar coaching at Nebraska, but more importantly she will have experienced elite level MB to assist her reads and form a uniform block. What will happen a year from now is unknown, and frankly a little silly given the absolutely great season for Nebraska we are anticipating in ‘24. What is a known, although subjective, is that Hunter is further along technically, and I think mentally, than Jazz Sweet was before she got to Nebraska in 2017-and that didn’t turn out bad for Jazz as a freshman. (Jazz was not a skilled block when she arrived in Lincoln, but she made one of the biggest solo blocks in program history in the regional final at Kentucky late in the 4th set in 2017). We’ll just see how it goes, I think worrying about it now isn’t productive. Hunter is a high level recruit and it will be interesting to see how she develops in the next year when she gets to Lincoln. The staff seems very happy they have her. And this is just me, but with her they won’t have to deal with the off the court baggage and nonsense that some players bring. 🏐

Despite that though, Beason was a great addition right? These freshman surprised us as well. I wouldn’t count Ryan out. She may not have all of the hype around her or be on a team where everyone is gawking at them like the other recruits, but the kid is a dawg. She has tremendous potential and with the right training she’s gonna be just fine!

Honestly I feel like I’ve seen a lot of hype around Hunter. Maybe not quite at that top tier player in the class like Mullen, Sigler, and AVW, but RIGHT below IMO. I think there’s plenty of gawking still if you watch her tape! She’s regarded as one of the top 3 opposites in the class from everything I’ve heard, and for good reason.
