I do like Ryan Hunter but my guess is that Cook will probably hunt for an opposite in the portal for 2025. This isn't a knock on her upside, I do agree that there is less overall pressure to be productive offensively given the surrounding talent, but regardless, she'll need to block at a high level. No amount of elite talent around her will change her ability to read opposing outside hitters and form a strong block on the RS. Any opposite must bring that to the floor for Nebraska to win a championship (which is the measuring stick for a program like Nebraska). Agree, don’t agree. Yes she will need to block at a sufficient level, but I disagree totally that the surrounding talent won’t help her. It is always the surrounding talent that determines the actual growth of any player, especially a freshman. I believe she will have stellar coaching at Nebraska, but more importantly she will have experienced elite level MB to assist her reads and form a uniform block. What will happen a year from now is unknown, and frankly a little silly given the absolutely great season for Nebraska we are anticipating in ‘24. What is a known, although subjective, is that Hunter is further along technically, and I think mentally, than Jazz Sweet was before she got to Nebraska in 2017-and that didn’t turn out bad for Jazz as a freshman. (Jazz was not a skilled block when she arrived in Lincoln, but she made one of the biggest solo blocks in program history in the regional final at Kentucky late in the 4th set in 2017). We’ll just see how it goes, I think worrying about it now isn’t productive. Hunter is a high level recruit and it will be interesting to see how she develops in the next year when she gets to Lincoln. The staff seems very happy they have her. And this is just me, but with her they won’t have to deal with the off the court baggage and nonsense that some players bring. 🏐 First I have a question: What is a great number to have for blocks per set as an opposite, and how did Beason compare in terms of that? Despite that though, Beason was a great addition right? These freshman surprised us as well. I wouldn’t count Ryan out. She may not have all of the hype around her or be on a team where everyone is gawking at them like the other recruits, but the kid is a dawg. She has tremendous potential and with the right training she’s gonna be just fine!

Honestly I feel like I’ve seen a lot of hype around Hunter. Maybe not quite at that top tier player in the class like Mullen, Sigler, and AVW, but RIGHT below IMO. I think there’s plenty of gawking still if you watch her tape! She’s regarded as one of the top 3 opposites in the class from everything I’ve heard, and for good reason.

Yea, really sad. Would've loved to see her make big strides this year. Wishing her a smooth recovery and I'm still excited for her potential down the road for us. It was already very likely happening in my opinion, but this makes it certain that Nebraska will probably try for an experienced opposite from the portal after Beason's eligibility runs out.

Ugh that’s so sad and hard to see in that video. Wishing her a speedy recovery. Just curious, can she still walk just fine like that without any support after the injury?

ACL tears aren’t really a painful injury. Many people walk off the court after the injury, myself included. Usually a torn meniscus or other related damage is what causes someone to need carried/carted off.
