Yeah, I'm sorry, no shade intended but anyone who is making their collegiate decision based on academics who ends up going to Nebraska is questionable to me. I personally don't think undergrad matters that much these days in the grand scheme of things but there is a big drop off from Northwestern to Nebraska in terms of academics, period. Northwestern is a top 10-ish school in a wealthy suburb of one of the highest GDP cities in the country, Nebraska isn't even an AAU member. Myopic. The purpose of college is to prepare one for their career. Manaia is a business major. NE has a good business school, combine that with the hands-on experience she will get managing her NIL $$, which is a business opportunity available to her at NE, more so than Northwestern. Manaia will be well served career-wise getting a Business Degree and playing VB at NE. If you are trying to convince me that she'll get the necessary skills to market her own brand and image (i.e HERSELF) (herself being the commodity) to secure her a quality future, then I 100% agree with you that Nebraska offers that. The exposure and money Nebraska volleyball can provide in addition to what Nebraska academics (like pretty much all flagship state schools these days) can provide, which is a quality undergrad experience, can surely secure her a bright future. But outside of that, if you are trying to imply that the overall network available for her at Nebraska is in any way on par with Northwestern, that's not gonna fly. Northwestern has a top 3 business school. It's still not uncommon for large Fortune 500 companies to pretty much exclusively reserve open mid/upper mid tier management positions for new hires from select schools. Northwestern is on that list, Nebraska is not.

In my best Allen Iverson voice…
Undergrad? We talking about Undergrad? Not post grad… not masters… not a doctorate… we talking about undergrad?
Northwestern, Creighton, USC, Nebraska, A&M wherever… you can get to Harvard law from any of them.

I get what u r saying, but not everyone wants the career path with a Fortune 500 company. I didn't. Grew up in a small business and did well establishing 2 of my own. Had I worked in a Fortune 500, my career would have been tied to a huge corp. Not for me, and IMO not as lucrative financially either.

Why are we talking about this? Nobody is making the claim that Nebraska is on par with these other schools in anything other than athletics, specifically volleyball. Nobody is disputing that Nebraska isn't on par with those schools academically. Our academic ranking has actually dropped since joining the Big Ten. Everyone knows this. She's coming here to play volleyball because that's her primary interest. If she was an academics-first SA she'd be going elsewhere.

She'll probably make more money at Nebraska in 4 years than she would for 10 years working post-college with a Northwestern degree.

You’re either overestimating her NIL payments at Nebraska or underestimating what a graduate from Northwestern would make. Although admittedly that can depend on how vocation oriented a person is in college. I get the sense sometimes people think players are rolling around with 6 digit NIL deals in volleyball left and right.

But she can still get a great job with a Nebraska degree. Especially if she chooses to stay in Nebraska for a career, she would be hired by pretty much anyone in the state.

So how much is each Nebraska volleyball player receiving in NIL payments?

At Nebraska is not very difficult to get to 6 figures a year. Really? So how much is each Nebraska volleyball player receiving in NIL payments? As you know, nobody really knows. There is apparently $500k per year in the collective, which if even would be about 40k each. But if some of that is used to give a 13th scholarship equivalent, or to retain a top player, then less is available. The top starters can of course do much better Than that with their own deals, but that is very unknown.

Well, it's the off season, there isn't much to talk about - no reason to take this so seriously. It's not all that common for someone who is pursing academics (business specifically), who has already gotten into Northwestern (a school that fields a top 3 business school), to change course and instead choose to go to the University of Nebraska to almost assuredly ride the bench for at least two years. Nobody is saying she made the wrong choice (smart kids from resourced and connected families - which Manaia seemingly is from - can have a quality future almost regardless of the undergrad school they go to), but it's certainly a unique choice. It's almost akin to saying that someone got into Harvard or Stanford but instead is choosing to pursue a volleyball career at Nebraska...seems like something worthy of off season chattering to me. It's at least more interesting than the latest Harper Murray crime.
