Watched Haury setting for her team at the PNQ yesterday. She still has great location, makes very good decisions and led her team to relatively easy wins. What stands out to me is the consistent high-quality passes she gets on serve return and transition; I don't think I saw her setting out of system in any of her three matches. I'll be interested to see how she does with less than stellar passing. I posted a full match of NPJ in the top 25 thread, NPJ didn't pass all that great in that match if you want to take a look. Watch some nationals if you can, there will definitely be times where NPJ won't be able to put up solid passing. IMO Haury's biggest strength is her quickness and her consistently. I don't know if she betters the ball at an elite level, but very few setters at this age do. It's hard to gauge her physical abilities at the net when the team runs a 6-2. She played in a 5-1 last year with the team, here is some YouTube footage of last years' team (she's #8)

I'm just not seeing the hype with Haury. On the upside she has a pretty good serve, digs well and gets to the ball quickly. However after seeing a fairly large sample size of her this year the set placement, decision making and athleticism are not elite IMO. Her blocking is basically non existent. NPJ does indeed run a 5-1 and the other teams OHs hit right over her at will. Her sets are often too far inside, tight, and low for her really talented and athletic hitters to do much with. One match I watched at PNQ this past weekend the placement and decision making was so bad she got subbed out for a bit.

I watched 4 NPJ matches and I must have been at a different tournament. First NPJ ran a 5-1 all weekend. Second, Harry’s location was very good, her decision making seemed excellent and she was extremely athletic. I don’t recall her being pulled once other than in blowouts, which did occur in Spokane. You are correct about her blocking but that will come with an extra year prior to graduating.
The only thing I find interesting is her posture. Haury is definitely muscular and athletic but seems to have some sort of neck or upper back issue that effects her posture; it’s just different. I hope that it is not something that could cause her problems down line.
I initially didn’t get the Husky decision on Haury but I have definitely come around. She has obvious leadership skills as she has clearly won the setting job on a great team despite being younger, and in critical matches/tournaments the 6-2 has been put aside. If Haury was indeed as bad a blocker as socal1976 indicates, it would have been easy for he4 coach to run a 6-2 with Kylin Filimaua who is a great setter herself.

Completely disagree with your assessments but the great thing is we'll find out in a year or 2 regardless. I wonder if she's going to skip club season next year and go to UW early? Filimaua is too valuable as a passer and hitter so the coaching staff has obviously made the call that they'll just have to live with the blocking deficiency in a 5-1. I was standing right there when she got pulled for stiffling the offense and it was not a blowout at all. The set placement is not maximizing the talent she has around her. Don't get me wrong she's a good setter and this NPJ roster is talented so I think they will be competitive at Nationals. I just don't think Haury is elite or has the capabilities to fully take advantage of the talent they have and I think it will be the same at the next level. Just an opinion and more power to the kid if she proves me wrong.

I too don't see an elite six rotation NCAA setter, for a variety of reasons, but that's neither here nor there. FWIW, I haven't actually been wowed with any 2024 setters. Not to say they aren't good players, but I just haven't been impressed, and that includes the Wisconsin and Stanford recruits.

This new verbal commit is: Tate Drageset from Actyve 17 Club in Southern California. Her insta bio says she is 2025 5'11" OH with a 29-inch vertical, touching 10'. Her videos show a dynamic hitter with good backrow skills.
Welcome Tate!

OK, Washington fans in the know ..... Do you know who are still in the running for Washington 2025? The Huskies got one early commitment from Tate Drageset, but nobody else has announced her verbal since. Since they are (so far) getting only 2 recruits for 2024 (Julia Hunt and Alexis Haury), I would think they are looking for more than one recruit for 2025. With Emoni redshirting this season, there will be one fewer scholarship available for 2025.
Who among the top recruits are still uncommitted? Abigail Mullen, Kaci Demaria, Taylor Harvey, Asia Harvey ...

Haury is the 2nd best setter recruit in the country? Who is the top recruit? Fuerbringer?

Haury is the 2nd best setter recruit in the country? Who is the top recruit? Fuerbringer? Haury is fine, but she's not the 2nd best setting prospect in the class. Hunt is a baller and provides much needed depth at middle. Next year we'll need to hit the portal hard for a six rotation OH, perhaps an opposite, and a backup setter.

2024:
OH: Endsley RS-SR, Bush RS-JR, Barton SO OPP: Wilmes RS-JR MB: Hani RS-SO, Wessels SO, Hunt FR S: Wilson RS-JR, Haury FR L: Bays SR, Griffin JR, Huard RS-FR
Assuming that Griffen and Huard are walk-ons, that should leave two scholarships available for 2024.
