I hate to see Stone go out like this. What a disappointing senior season.

Just watched Oregon play Colorado and get swept, maybe I haven't watched enough matches but not only is Kylie Robinson's setting all over the place but I've seen middles play better defense than her...

I am hoping that the setting for next year improves. Sometimes some of the sets are incredible, but then there are too many bad sets. That can definitely happen with young setters though!

I actually think this is a problem with the Oregon system. As I mentioned in their prior match thread, there seems to be a premium on the setters trying to make really hard sets OOS, instead of putting up simple hittable balls for their extremely athletic hitters to crush. It's happened through several years and multiple setters, so I have to believe it's the system. Occasionally, these hard sets (ie. slide back sets from the knees in the middle of the court) pay out, but 90% of the time it's a train wreck. Robinson has been at Oregon for 2 seasons, so I don't think you can excuse the "young setters", when the previous Oregon setters had the same problems.

Went from Elite 8 to second from the cellar in one season. 5 players left that Elite 8 team.....all now on teams likely to be in postseason.
Have two returning AA and two highly recruited but young setters and end up with single digit wins.
A good coach don’t let theses kind of stuff happen.

I’ve heard Matt really berate a player during a timeout or a set switch for something minor and then other players do the same thing with no reaction. Never a healthy culture when certain players are blamed and others are on a pedestal. And it starts at the top and trickles down. If someone transfers next season we now know who that could be.

She’s on a pedestal why would she transfer? And I doubt she would hit on other top ranked teams.

I don't know who got yelled at...maybe multiple people? Regardless, being yelled at by a coach is not unheard of. It will be interesting to see if someone transfers though.

It will be interesting to see if someone transfers though. Exactly. If you're not getting yelled at by the coach, then you're likely not play9ng much and don't care. That said though, Oregon has had a coach that yelled at his players and that didnt go well for him. But really, it all depends on what he was yelling about. Sometimes yelling is the rig he call. If a player isn't putting in the effort to run down a ball, or just swinging away like there is no block, etc... maybe it's also directly related to something he specifically focused on the entire week in practice but not being executed during the matches. Main point being that there is a correct time to get on your team. And let's be realistic, with the talent on the team and the record we have, there is likely good cause to yell. That said though, it doesn't mean the coach is right or that there isn't something fundamentally wrong with the system the team is running. Lastly, it really will be a "time will tell" situation during the off season. If Ulmer has the buy in from his players, it will show. But if he doesn't a lot will be asking for transfers.
