This seems like a really long day of games. With 8 teams is it better to just go single elimination? I think they'll eliminate the pairs and spread the tourney over 3 days.

This seems like a really long day of games. With 8 teams is it better to just go single elimination? Long day, yeah. But no more so than most beach tournaments (excluding a World Tour event. FIVB really, really likes to drag things out). No real fatigue issue, as players have at most three matches spread out over eight-nine hours. The USC-Pepp match was the highlight of the day. USC down 2-0, with the other three matches all going on at the same time, and all going three. It was a kick to watch people running from the main court after Hughes/Claes won to watch the end of the deciding match between the #4's. USC 4's were down 10-6 in the third and roared back to win 15-11, followed by them being dog piled on the court by the rest of a joyous USC squad. Really, really disappointing showing by Hawai'i (although they were dealing with some injury issues coming in to the tournament). I know Gulf Shores is a haul for many people, but man, the weather is fantastic (this year), and the set-up is first class. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gulf Shores continue to host (the NCAA rep I chatted with was very impressed), although perhaps not on a permanent basis a la the College World Series in Omaha.

USC WINS!!!! Wins at courts 2, 5, and 1 clinch the victory for Anna Collier, and the Trojans finish the season undefeated at 28-0!
Fitting that it came down to the most consistent pair all season long, the No. 1 duo of Claes/Hughes to clinch USC's first ever National Championship!

USC are your 2015 National Champions, much to the surprise of pretty much nobody. Great run by LBSU to make it to the finals, though.

That is now USC's 123rd national titles according to their twitter.. Is that true? I mean I can see why Stanford and UCLA or even Cal has 100's of em but USC? Mad respect

Sorry if that was a little too excited! Haha just super happy as a USC fan on this board, and great to see them finally win it all after coming close the last few years. And yes, first national title in sand volleyball for them. I think only three teams have won before, correct? (Pepp x2, LBSU, and now USC?)
And yeah, 123rd overall for the school, but that's just total school championships. Sand volley isn't technically an NCAA sport yet, so I don't think any of the last four years' winners count towards total NCAA titles. But USC is one of the top 3 NCAA-title holding schools along with Stanford and UCLA. 123 overall championships for USC isn't too shabby though!
Happy for Collier and the girls, it was a very high and exciting level of play this weekend by a lot of the teams. Gulf Shores was a great host too. Hats off to that great run by LBSU too, especially since some thought they might not even make it in the field. It was a little weird with the staggered start, they made the 2 pairs and 5 pairs go first, then the 1s and 3s, and left the 4s for last. But Claes/Hughes finished it out with a 21-7, 21-19 win. Wish the games this weekend were streamed somewhere though! There was no coverage at all, so I had to rely on Twitter posts for set scores. Haha but overall, I think it was a great weekend in Gulf Shores and a nice way to end the 2015 season.

Until next year when Sand VB gives an official NCAA Championship trophy, USC can add over ten titles to the mix that UCLA and Stanford cannot.....football. Congrats, girls. Fight On!

Forgot to congratulate Meg Norton. Only player to win an Indoor Championship (UCLA) and now a Sand Championship (she is in grad school). Does anyone know where one can find the doubles championship results that followed the school championship?

Yup, props to Norton. She and Eve Ettinger were solid all year long at the 3 spot as seniors. I actually thought it was very weird that Norton, despite being a UCLA grad, was actually voted on as a team captain for this season (along with Sara Hughes) by the rest of the squad, but that says a lot about her leadership and I'm happy she helped us bring the NC home!
And the pairs tourney is tomorrow. USC & LBSU's top 2 pairs get in automatically I think, while the rest of the schools have been participating in a few play-in games that took place earlier today, so tomorrow should be the main draw. It should be a really good day of play, there are some competitive duos out there like LMU's Metter/Sponcil, those two always seem to give Hughes/Claes a fit. And of course Pepperdine's Woolever/Larsen, Dykstra/Strehlow in addition to USC's Bukovec/Strange and LBSU's Brinke/Jackson and Aigner-Swesey/Cabrajac.
