SBB im pretty sure from reading your posts that you know a good number of these athletes. ask any of them why they struggle so much trying executing their game plans and i guarantee you that will be their answer . just not playing together. usawvb has enough talent to beat all their opponents at any given time and then some but they lack fire as a team. if it looks like crap, smells like crap im sorry it is crap. i saw plenty of it during their athen matches except against cuba and brazil In absolute truth I can tell you that I know none of the current USA Women personally.

How about Doug Beal as the US women's coach? Let's get Ari Selinger !! Haven't gone any further than the silver since he left.

Here are some of my thoughts on the entire mess: Logan Tom, who was the object of an interesting article in today's L.A. Times is far too petulant and has an apparent attitude problem! She sucked in the match. Tayyiba is still a huge part of the future of this program. Not sure about Ogonna, as she still needs to learn a whole lot more about the game....overall game is still not that great. .....Ah Mow will probably retire and Lindsey Berg, who is far too heavy and looks anything but a world class athlete, is NOT the future of this country's setting for this program......Tara is done, and so is Danielle.....Metcalf probably has a future on this team.....we need to find a setter(oops we got one here in Brittany Hochevar and another MB in Elisha Thomas as Bown was anything but impressive in these Olympics.....what middle attack????I am sick and tired of Logan Tom and I just chuckle at the moron who suggested that she move to the beach and take on Misty and Keri,,,,,,,,,NOW THAT IS A REAL HOOT! Which college are you a fan for? I like LBSU too, but come on.... how could you say that about Logan Tom...she's great. I think the first 2 matches that i saw Haneef play in, she didn't look so good. She couldn't find the court for awhile.

How long has Tayyiba been playing volleyball on the International level??? Two years? Logan has been playing at the international level for over 6 years now,,,,,,,I like Tay's future better than I like Logan's.....Plus Tayyiba is much more coachable and does not have an attitude, like Ms. Tom!

I'll say one thing, as far out in left field as Beachman's assessments are, they are highly entertaining.
Now...someone give him his reality pill so he can join us again in the real world.

And just to clarify Beachman's exaggerations, Haneef has been with the team since 2001 (3 years) and Tom has been with the team since 2000 (4 years). If you want to count international experience on the junior team (which I don't because junior international competition is a joke anyway - most countries put their most talented teenagers straight onto the National Team anyway) Tom played internationally since 1997.

Okay, the only thing worse than a board lemming is a board lemming with an obvious bias for Long Beach State.
Wait...scratch that...not an obvious bias...an end-all, LBSU-is-the-alpha-and-omega-of-volleyball, there-can-be-only-one, LBSU is the shizzle, don't talk to me about anyone else if it ain't LBSU, I HAVE THE MOST HUGEST OF ALL TIME, BIAS. Yeah...that's it. Hehehehehe.

Russia has Chachkova and Gamova, China Wang Lina and Hao Yang, Brazil will Virna Dias and Erika Coimbra. The reality of it is that they need great outside hitters, IMO Logan Tom needs to majorly improve her game because even as good as she is, I don't think she is in the Chachkova, Artamanova, Dias, Ruiz, etc. class of the world's best outside hitters. Maybe Tom is not as good as the forementioned, however she's the only one from the current roster who has the potential to be the versatile player that they are. Team USA needs more players of this type. Of course it is always nice to have someone who can kill any kind of ball but do little else. However, I do not think you can afford to have more than one on court who plays this way. Passing/ serve reception is the name of the game in international volleyball. If you don't receive you struggle, your offense is predictable. I have seen teams lose matches they were favorites to win because other team was serving very effectively and receivers could not handle it.

Our players have to leave for a huge part of the year to make a living and then they try to come back, straggler after straggler, and try to for a cohesive unit and compete with other teams who subsidize their players to a much greater degree than we do.....plus our players have to stay at the OTC in Colorado Springs, a place that most of them really don't like or enjoy living at......all in all a formula for disaster......I just hope that LT moves on and takes her "tude" with her! So what kind of "system" do you suggest for the national team? Cuba and China, I believe, are the only teams whose players train together year-round. Doesn't every world-class player play in a pro league during the season then assemble for international competitions? How much money do our players get in subsidies, how much should they get, and who's paying for all this? Most athlete's in low profile sports (judo, rythmic gymnastics, even swimming) have to get support from family or a regular job unless he/she achieves superstar status like Michael Phelps or Marion Jones. According to Home Depot's ads on TV, they support many athlete's including Reid Priddy (lumber). I have no idea how the national team pay-out system works. Does anyone know how much players around the world get paid by their federations? Your post implies that team USA is at a disadvantage for finacial reasons yet USA was beaten by the Dominican Republic!!! A third-world country whose players probably feel fortunate to have a change of uniforms and a gym to practice in. Honestly, I am interested to find out if our players get paid and where USAV's money comes from, unless it's some high level secret. The only thing I remember is the brouhaha over Bob Samuelson, a backup MB, getting a $100k contract (which apparently was much higher than everyone else) after the '92 Olympics just because he was loud and bald. As far as having to train in Colorado Springs, it's a beautiful city with the most advanced athletic facility in the world. So your saying that some of our best volleyball players abandon any Olympic goals because they better night-life than what C. Springs has to offer. Try training in a war-torn Eastern European country. Whole families have uprooted themselves or sent their kids across the country on their own to just train with a specific coach. You gotta watch all those sappy, personal story segments on NBC. They're just heart-breaking.
