My guess is the AVP spent all of its cash on BUILDING A SAND VOLLEYBALL COURT ON A FREAKIN' CEMENT PIER!!!!! Once again, the NVL makes the simple decision to go where the "beach" is and focus more on the player and fan experience. I'm not convinced the NVL will ever catch up to the AVP's talent and brand recognition, but they don't seem to be making too many mistakes when it comes to running their tour.
On the talent side, I do have to say when a couple top teams don't play (like this week on the women's side) the talent seems pretty comparable once you get past Ross/Fopma and Kessy/Day.
And for brand recognition, I'm just as likely to go to an NVL event as I am an AVP event, unless both are in the same town on the same weekend, then I'd probably go to the AVP. BUT, I have watched way more of the NVL stream than the AVP stream today because of the quality of video!

Also love that Al-B bought a full page ad for his live stream on beach volleyball database so it's the first thing you see when you go to that site to check on the AVP scores. These live streams are so damn important to get committed fans to pay attention. It is unbelievable to me that the AVP can't get its sh** together on something so basic. For the last two years, there has been consistent complaining rightfully so at many levels including this forum regarding AVP's live streaming. I recall the first year with CBS Sports, the live stream was ok...not great...but ok but the last two years have been pitiful with this year being the worst. The only possible reasons I can think of is either A) AVP does not care or Donald Sun does not care - this would not be good if this is the case and really show how disconnected DSun is to the hardcore fans; or B) the AVP does care BUT does not have the funds available for the technology - this is worse...

Looks like they got the real stream up now. Actually pretty good. Don't understand why they can't just do this all the time. avp.com/live/

Eight years ago, the old AVP had a stream called Mosaic. You could pick from a bunch of different matches to watch and it almost always worked. Again that was eight years ago.
Now the AVP has one stream where you can watch one match that often fails to work. In the alternative they have a 14 year old holding an iPhone so fans can see sideways stop motion.
As a longtime and dedicated fan of the sport, this is incredibly frustrating.
I can watch any significant beach volleyball event in the world more easily than I can the AVP. Whether its CEV, FIVB, NVL, or even something like the Pottstown Rumble, all have solved this problem that the AVP cannot.
When does product access become a priority?

Sometimes I really just wonder what on earth the AVP is thinking. I could not disagree more with your second paragraph... Even when the top couple teams don't play, the AVP is still significantly better. I know your example was with the women's side, but the Men's AVP qualifier is stronger than the NVL's main draw. Teams like the McKibbins, Burik/Toppel, Loomis/McColloch, Bomgrens (in the New Orleans quali), and others would likely be favorites to win an NVL event yet struggle just to get into an AVP main..... I do think that there is some very talented players on the NVL, and anything could happen in one match but I just don't think there is any comparison overall.

Nice to see Claes/Hughes doing well. Gives some hope for the future. They may have another win or two left. Can't understand why Dowdy is playing with McGuire. That team makes no sense and the beat down from Urango shows that.
