Say you are a club director that the AVP invites to bring her girls to an event. If its at the Cincinnati Tennis Center or downtown Indianapolis you are going to think twice. You know your girls will be bored by 2, whining and complaining and on their phones. You are probably sick of hearing this, but you can't say that about Cincy. I have been to that event for the past 9 years. There are always club teams there. They are always engaged and having fun. Quite possibly Cincinnati is the exception to the rule, but that city loves the AVP/pro beach event. And they apparently love it despite it being at the tennis center.

Thats fair I have never heard anything bad about that event. I just chose it as the non-beachiest stop I could think of

Just adding my 2 cents here to a few poins brought up in this thread about avp....
Agreed that limited schedule really limits growth of fanbase. With that said, you need big sponsors to make it happen since the sport has never figured out how to make money from tix or merchandise sales or wherever.
With hectic schedules everyone seemingly has these days, I personally feel that traditional day long tournaments are not the future and emphasizing lifestyle seems less relevant too. I am not sure simpky have event on beach guarantees good turnout. I think organizers hope beach goers simpky fill up seats since they're around. Average Joe fans may be more interested in concentrated play over a few hours regardless. With that said, having fewer but top teams in events sort of makes sense. Leave the rest of players to play on all the non-pro tours out there across the country with perhaps more local qualifiers offering bids to pro events. With this line of thinking it also makes more sense to utilize permanent facilities where setup/teardown isn't a huge undertaking.
In general, no one knows these beach athletes unless a sport diehard. That's tough to change with limited schedule.

I remember going to an AVP event circa 1995 up in Minneapolis. It was an enclosed venue that was fenced in, they had different types of ticket prices you could buy, 1 for a day entry and 1 for a weekend entry. Maybe because it wasn't on a natural beach, and an artificual setting it was able to be more controlled, but it was a hella fun time, you had all the great players wondering around this enclosed venue you could appraoch (if they were approachable), they had games and stuff going on for kids and different types of competitions, and it was just a very dynamic, vibrant setting and there were people everywhere - it was overflowing with people. They had different types of sponsors there pumping their product, beer and food concessions, and just a whole lot of stuff going on.
Why can't they go back to something like that for at least some additional revenue?
This was actually the only AVP Tournament I have ever been to in person, so I have absolutely no idea on how its different on an actual beach, or now vs. then, or whatever.

Looks like the AVP has Acer as the sponsor for Manhattan. Acer is a $10B+/yr company. Between Acer, Kingston, and Rakuten we're looking at some really deep pockets. I think Acer and Rakuten are new so hopefully this year shows the sponsors what they want and next year they decide to spend more.

Thats not a real sponsor relationship, its a handout. Im not sure I understand the Acer sponsorship either. Is it possible its a very low dollar sponsorship so the AVP can say they have it, perhaps Donald's tech connections doing him a favor? Otherwise what does Acer get out of it?

Who is the AVP's sunscreen sponsor? Beer? Soft Drinks? Sandals?
Where are the natural tie ins? I think the tech sponsors are fine, but why can't the AVP access markets it was seemingly made for?

I've beat my head on the wall over this topic many times. To some degree, having the offices in Cali, I don't think they view the whole VB community right.
