In terms of nonserving liberos, Melissa Villaroman ranks right up there.
Hedder and Nalani had very effective jump serves.

I honestly think that if Ilustre were still in the line-up this season that the Wahine might have been a lot better. No one was challenging Villaroman for that libero position this year. Last year it was a constant battle. If Villaroman could not do it, Ilustre could. I spoke with many volleyball enthusiasts and all agreed that Villaroman was not playing at the same level this year as compared to last. Ilustre probably made her into the libero she was last year.

That is very true. Hedder also took off some of the pressure from Melissa, Kim and Lily. The passing against Florida would not have been an issue if Hedder was there.

Yeah we already all agreed on that, that Melissa played at a higher level last year. And the obvious reason is because Hedder Ilustre was in the line-up. But without Hedder there Melissa had to do it all on her own and no one was there to push her hard. No disrespect to Ashley Watanabe, but she isn't close to what both these young ladies did for the Wahine in the past seasons. I think the Wahine libero position is going to be hurting in the next couple years.

Ashley has shown some flashes of brilliance this season. I have faith that she'll work really hard this summer and develop into a decent libero next year.

I thought that Dave made a statement that this was his "best team ever"?

*sigh* I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for someone to do a write in vote for a class like "Psych. 101".

I thought that Dave made a statement that this was his "best team ever"? I think he means that this is his best team ever in terms of talent. The level of talent is so much superior to the level of talent 20 years ago. I would think that if you put this team back 20 years ago, they would have easily won several national championships and possibly not lost a single match.

I thought that Dave made a statement that this was his "best team ever"? Yes exactly he said that this was his best TEAM ever. But there are still other INDIVIDUALS from previous teams that can compete for best in their position or in history.

Dave's dream team would be Anjelica and Heather in the middle, Robyn setting, Kim and Tee on the left, Lily on the right(or left) and Nalani Yama%*$#a as defensive specialist. Talk about power! What college team would stand a chance against three players of the year, the intelligence and power of the Hawaiian poi pounder, the fluidity of Ah Mow, and the gargantuan block and offensive skills of Bown.

your right, mine. ;D But in regards to UH's history of players, I think we see pretty eye to eye. Can you question this roster?

As a bench I would have: MB-Cia Goods MB-Veronica Lima OH-Kenyatta Lovelace OH-Therese Crawford R-Jenny Wilton S-Kanoe Kamana`o Li-Hedder Ilustre

Ashley has shown some flashes of brilliance this season. I have faith that she'll work really hard this summer and develop into a decent libero next year. I agree. She just needs to be more consistent and maybe that can be achieved next year, when she'll be the leading lady in the libero position. She made a cool diving dig in the semi-finals against Florida and has given us a peek as to why Dave Shoji has kept her in the lineup for the past three years.
But I have to say that Melissa Villaroman and Hedder Ilustre have been two of Hawai'i's best defensive specialists. I wish Hedder redshirted that 2001 season....
