Boy I sure am glad that the second best US team skipped the most historic volleyball tournament there is so we are represented in this garbage tournament no one cares about.

You can direct that question to their mentor coach AC. They were seeking Young FIVB quality but not sure it worked out. Good traveling experience for both USA girls teams. Plenty of time to play in the USA down the road, plus they are supporting USAV programs which has provided valuable training and experience so it is the right thing to do...

They would have been near favorites to win this year but instead they chose to play an event that wasnt really competitive.

Well at least they won and represented their country , themselves, family & all their hard work & dedication.
That says a lot. Better than the AVP putting them in another qualifier to waste their time. Lol.
RedBull tour & FIVB will pay them much better anyway.

Until the final no one came within 15 points of them. The most competitive match, the final, took 27 minutes. Does this somehow give them a leg up in future FIVBs?

If Avp puts them in the main draw automatically where would they put them to make it far for all the other teams that's spent tons of money to travel and play more events and sacrificed there family's time to be on the road and then end up in the quailer and not make it in and get no money? Being very young and used to winning maybe they liked there odds of actually winning the other tournament instead of the Avp this weekend?

The competition at WUG's are like the proverbial box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. Past events have had some serious World Tour talent in the draw, but it's not always that way. While there were some teams entered that Claes/Hughes will be seeing on the tour, like the bronze medalists from Spain, it looks like the overall field was pretty so-so.
Still, it's always good to experience international play - and learning how to manage travel, rest, training, eating etc. - particularly since Claes/Hughes' future is the FIVB tour.

I was assuming the international experience of this tournament is above and beyond even the Manhatten Open in their careers right now. FIVB > AVP at this point anyways, and if they felt it was in their best interest Internationally it makes sense. They are making a go at the FIVB as soon as their next collegiate season is over.

MBO would have been great since given the outcome they could have won it since they have beaten the winners before. Looking back at the history of Hughes playing for USAV, they have trained her since the age of 14. She first traveled to Cyprus at that age and subsequently with JWO, Summer and Kelly but had yet to reach the #1 podium outside of Norececa in offshore opportunities. Having been left in the semi's several times with inconsistent partner play, I'm sure this win was rather cherished given the years of hard work and traveling for USAV. Besides the pay back seems well worth it with a main draw card from USAV into AUS for the best venue in the sport.
