Anti-US sentiment in Rio? what's the cause? Americans act like A$$HOLE$ Charming. Any other enlightening thoughts? In the World League in 2015 when Brazil got knocked out of the semis, Brazilian fans started to boo the US for no reason. France is the one who actually best Brazil, and yet they cheered for Serbia against the US and booed US players. Then there's the social media treatment U.S. volleyball players have received from Brazilians. And why are we calling Americans the A$$holes here?

“Brazilian fans have no manners,” Juca Kfouri, a Brazilian sportswriter, told Reuters. “You will not find any respect for rivals.”

Because if you travel abroad, there are two groups that are rude above ALL others: the United States and China. If you know a foreign language, pretend you are from that country instead. If you only know English, carry something with a Maple Leaf, know where Toronto is on a map. You'll be happier with your international experience.

I've not encountered anyone internationally who gave me grief for being from the USA.

Best Comment I've seen so far regarding the booing Brazilians. Mitchell Eubank: "If you make a bid to HOST the Olympics, you are inviting the World into your home. You are asking over 200 Nations to to come to your country. If you treat people you invite into your home like this, you are kind of an @$$%*!*. If that's too much to ask, don't try to host the Olympics." www.buzzfeed.com/bradesposito/pole-vault-tears?utm_term=.ggKQPa6q1m#.aqVGA8N3dJ

Or Brits in Marbella. I lived in London for several years, and have spent a substantial amount of time on other continents. I've occasionally run into some anti-U.S. sentiment, but that's been the exception rather than the rule.

I think you need to be specific about the difference between "anti-US sentiment" and hostility toward people from the US.

Based on personal experience, I agree with most of this article. Are Americans Really the Worst? 5 Other Countries Whose Tourists Make Us Look Good www.yahoo.com/style/the-worst-tourists-95743946577.htmlMost of the American tourists I've met abroad were well-traveled, friendly and respectful of native customs.

Yeah, it's been a bit of both - "America sucks, but you seem like a decent dude" vs. "You're American? Eff You!." Definitely more of the former than the latter. Although I do remember a drunk Scandinavian of some sort who seemed personally offended by my nationality in a Stavanger, Norway bar during an FIVB event. But that stuff has been pretty far and few between.
