Ever hear of the "Ugly American"? It refers to the arrogance of an American who butchers the native language, has no idea of the native customs, and are just plain rude in thinking that they are better than anyone else. BTW, Argentina is Brazil's biggest rival. The US is next in line. Not in vb

I see two scenarios in terms of booing.
If it is US vs China in the final, the crowd will boo mostly China, because the Chinese defeat Brazil and the crowd will have a grudge against them.
If it is Netherlands vs US, the crowd will boo US and support Netherlands because they are the under-dog.

I've been all over the world and have discovered that everyone hates the United States, but everyone wants to live here. Brazilians love americans. I was just there and am married to one. They're rooting against a superpower who is the biggest threat to them winning. Married you for the green card. As I said, everyone wants to live here.

Part of the answer may be Ryan Lochte and Hope Solo.

Not really anti US sentiment as much as lets see, US leads in medal count, has the most dominant teams at the olympics, so everyone wants to see the favorites get knocked out. I love seeing the favorites get knocked off, as long as it's not the team I'm rooting for….

USA is unpopular overseas because of our hegemonic foreign policies. It's as simple as that.

Is the Lochte situation 'payback' for the culmination of 'bad media' resulting from the story? Lochte is merely a great example of ugly americans.
