That's exactly what I'm saying - the coaches on both side fielded a team that was good enough to win, the players didn't get the job done. Or the coach on the Italian side made better in-game tactical adjustments. Not really. Italy was just mentally tougher. They were behind so many times and fought with a warrior attitude. They said "I want this." vs. USA who whimpered like little puppies, "I don't want wanna screw this up. Help?!"

Maybe he was using the vulcan nerve pinch on the throats of the American players because again Italy did not outplay the US, the US blew it with poor judgement, bad setting and too many errors…guessing he didn't feel like making any tactical changes in games 2 and 3, even 4, Christ even 1 - how did the US lose this match?

Wow, I really thought USA was going to bring home at least 2 golds and 4 total medals between beach and indoor. Rio is the anti-Beijing.

Speraw is the one to blame for sure. Like Alan Knipe, backup is something non-existent for him. Lee and Sander have been the weakest point of this team, yet he refuses to substitute them. FU, John Speraw!. This loser should be ditched after that.

That's funny, but the Vulcan neck pinch is actually more towards the shoulder area, not the throat so much. Unless you're thinking of this guy (who definitely got it wrong).

Was it the previous poster's comment about "puppies" that got to you?

I am bummed not because I didn't think we could lose but because these damn teams play with my emotions. The US delivers one of the most dominant set performances and then burns out. Italy is cheating they are playing with a Cuban and a Russian haha kidding. Italy was always capable. Our tendency to go deuce sets against them means there is very little separating these two teams.
I am excited for the future all these guys are young with the exception of Lee we have a solid team for the future. I don't know what I would change. Micah's reluctance to go to the BIC late in the match after it has been working all tournament was a headscratcher. Also Speraw needs to use his subs that's why you have a bench. On to Bronze Italy has two of the best hitters in the tournament and Ginaelli is superb. Can't be mad when you lose to a good team.

Anderson should not come back. He is the male version of Destinee Hooker - a drama king. Hopefully Sander will never have a chance again next quad too.

Sigh. And definitely needed subs. Speraw needed to realize they were choking. By the way, I think the team needs Sander. He's a great receiver/passer, a very weak area for us. They can't rely on Shoji all the time.
