Let's all stop blaming Taylor Sander please... Please distinguish between the player who passed nails all match from the player who let an overpass drop in at 9-12 in the fifth set.... I fully blame him for the 5th set. He's young, he'll figure it out or he'll be sitting on the bench while Jaeschke plays for the next four years

Outstanding effort by this team in the olympics, I hope they can finish it with a bronze medal. They had chances to finish the game but in the end Italy made the big plays. People need to not hate on Sander and Russell... the team would not be fighting for an olympic bronze without either of those guys and not to mention they won a world cup gold, these guys are literally not too far out of college and their level should only continue to rise, physically and mentally! Jaeschke is realistically behind Sander and Russell at this moment but I think his level will rise and lets not forget this was supposed to be his senior year in college. With regards to 2020... I'm not sure what Anderson's status will be let alone if he will even continue playing opposite for the pipeline, but he has been excellent this quad overall. As for John Speraw... guy has taken massive risks as a coach and it has paid dividends. He was not afraid to push the envelope and throw out the young players to the wolves to increase their level. Is he right all the time? No, but he is the best damn coach in the USA and will only continue to learn and improve. Alan Knipe in the last quad was too scared to make any true changes and just stuck by the old horses of 08 olympics gold squad. Realistically Knipe stepped into an extremely difficult situation as well.

Sheesh... Why wasn't Reid Priddy given a chance to go in there and pass.... And make sure overpasses don't land in the court. Just watched the match still smh. Russell should've tracked the overpass standing on the sideline not inside the court looking out where you can't have any clue where it's landing. Priddy should've gone in after Russell was aced the first time in the final set.

In 2013 Zaytsev aced us four straight times when we had four straight set points to win the set. History repeating itself!

At some long stretches each guy had at least one moments where they disappeared or was just not good. Unfortunate. Congrats Italy. They have been on a mission from the start. it was really Russell who's bonehead passing and errors killed the us in sets 1 and 5! When your up 15-8 in game 1, a shank or 2 at the end of the game wasn't the problem now was it.? I guess you forgot the 6-0 in game 4 run when we were up 22-19 includine 3 straight aces on our libero. For sure our young OH's didn't pass the test late in game 1 and 4 but the game was clearly in our control and other issue contributed to allowing Italy to close the game. Take care of a few better decisions setting and attacking and we don't put them in that position let alone go to a 5th game. Seems like you have selective memory.

Everyone would've been aced by Zaytsev's hybrid topspin. Most would've been smart enough to pass Buti's floaters overhand.

Not sure why we didn't pass four there as Anderson was available to squeeze in or at least give a different look. Shoji had a lot of area to cover. Buti's floater is nasty and you would've had to move way up to take it with hands. Russell 19/35/6 errors .370 Anderson 13/26/4 errors .340 Sander 10/25/ 5 errors .250 As a team we actually hit for a higher percentage. For the record, the refs lost control of that match a few times. The double call on Matt was ridiculous and Italy had 3 or 4 worse than that.

The ref did lose control early, the Italians just would not shut up. That had nothing to do with the outcome though.

This loss is Clay Stanley's fault for retiring and having a bad knee. That's who we should be blaming.

B&D Volleyball?
Tune in and watch your favorite team get spanked......
At least they're consistent, every single team playing out the same script.

Speraw and his team obviously didn't watch or pay attention to the women's match. Because otherwise the issue of choking could've been addressed.
Where was the sports psychologist when we needed her?

Volleyball is such an amazing spectator sport especially when you see momentum shifts that are sparked by one big block, hit or service run.
Looking at the numbers you wonder how the heck USA lost.
Out hit them %, out blocked them, led in aces.
Don't know the passing numbers but doesn't sound good from reading the posts.
They have shown resilience in defeat earlier in the tournament so have a good chance of bouncing back for bronze.
