Anyone attend fan day today? I want more insight.
From Twitter, I picked up the following:
Soko and Hammons both got time on the left (they were on the floor simultaneously at some point too, which brings up some other questions) Kramer ran a slide off Huskey that ended in a kill Hammons played back row and front too (got a kill to end the 3rd) Joseph was at right as expected Starting lineup: Snyder, Alhassan, Joseph, Hammons, CK, Monserez, Kramer (not sure)

The starting lineup was S-Monz MB-Alhassan, Kramer OH- Snyder, Soko (DS Hammons) L-Knop RS- Joseph (DS Gregory)
When Gregory came in for Joseph, Carli played out of right back and was definitely attempting to generate offense on the right side considering Kramer and Alhassan were the starting middles and struggle running behind the setter. Overall I think there is a lot of work to be done before Texas next week. Really the only player that I think played well was CK. Not sold on Allie starting yet, she had a couple of doubles on easy sets, and had a lot of missed connections with the middles, and I think cheyenne has a much higher ceiling especially if they start playing her now, come December I think the growing pains would pay off. Snyder provides a decent option out of the back when Joseph is out. Mia hit quite a few balls into the net, but also had some impressive hits as well. I think the battle between Kramer and King is still not over, as Kramer struggled quite a bit today. Hammons looked NERVOUS to me, and that doesn't bode well for playing number one Texas in a packed house next week. When Hammons played all the way around she seemed to be a little more comfortable and took the smartest swings of the outsides in my opinion. Sorry for the stream of consciousness, posting my thoughts from my phone

Thanks for the analysis. Pretty much where we thought we would be.

No team in America has a bigger opening weekend than the Gators. #1 and #4 is awesome at anytime of the year, let alone back to back on the first weekend that you crack the seal on the new season. Here's to hoping that the team competes well, regardless of result. It would be fantastic to win both or split, but most importantly is how they compete and perform. Just a reminder to temper expectations for the season, and to look back to 2016 if only as a guide: It's not how you start, but how you finish. It would be wonderful to start on a high, but it's most important to be playing the best volleyball in late November and early to mid-December. Go Gators!!!

I'm glad they played this match. Hopefully it will help them work out the nerves and kinks -- there were a lot of them -- before the tournament.
No player or aspect of the game was particularly sharp, which I guess can be expected given the circumstances and the differing line-ups. I would have thought CK and Gregory would have been crisper in their passing than they were, but it was woeful at times.
It looks as if Holston will be missed big time. Bless her heart for playing yet another position -- and Joseph is certainly game -- but she didn't do much at all Saturday.
The bright spot for me was Sokolowski. She did hit the net too often but I think her upside is good. Hammonds too. She had a really nice kill out of the back row on an out-of-system play.
The O'Connell Center renovation is nice. The seats are comfortable. Yay for that. Individual statistics were not shown on any of the screens. I hope that was just for this match and that they are shown in the future.

Had Texas - Florida close to a toss-up in the Pick-the-Winners contest, especially if JE were to allow White to watch it out. This nice summary of possible issues getting out the gate seems to make the selection pretty clear, regardless. thx

I saw Texas' first match of the year last season versus Nebraska. Serving and passing were challenges. Add in a Freshman setter this year and you at least have the recipe for a close battle between the two teams. Yes Holston was huge for the Gators throughout her career, but she's the only player they graduated. A toss up is a good call. Stick with it.

If this isn't upside, I don't know what is. You can't teach height.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by Mia. She had way more attempts than anyone else and did pretty well! Definitely had some bad errors, in my opinion, but she's got great reach and hit around or over the block a lot. Also loved Paige. Already a big fan of hers and hope she succeeds! Didn't look bad out there! I like them playing her back row for Mia and I love that they gave her a few swings from the pipe. That's a good wrinkle that we need! In my opinion, CK had a bad match. We need her to hold down the fort back there, but didn't do too well passing. Hopefully just first-match jitters And while those stats look decent for Rhamat, I think there was only one good kill out of the middle for her. Everything else was wonky. Hopefully that steadies back out too! I wouldn't mind seeing Mia on the right with Carli and Paige on the left. Mia could be the consistent hitter on the RS. Love Shaianah, but she can be really streaky and I think needs a lot more looks at the ball to get into the zone, which just probably isn't gonna happen. I'm so happy to be back in the O'Dome watching Gator Volleyball in person! Can't wait to see what this season holds.

On another note I read that Lauren Dooley will be graduating early and foregoing her club season to get an early start.
