2017 is shaping up to be an interesting year.
Is it a filler period as we wait for the likely #1 ranked 2018 class or can this team accomplish something in Rhamat and Carli's final season?
The only loss due to graduation is Alex Holston, the most efficient pin hitter in the SEC in 2016 (#2 in NCAA). I say "only" quite facetiously.
Does Florida get Huskey more involved and run a 6-2?
I suspect there will be many questions heading into the year with the most significant likely being how Mary will keep her team engaged and who will be redshirting or transferring. I'd imagine we see a fair amount of transfers this offseason.
SENIORS: Rhamat Alhassan, 6-4, MB Carli Snyder, 6-1, OH Caroline Knop, 5-8, L Shainah Joseph (RS), 6-1, RS Samantha Dubiel, 5-6, DS Lindsey Rogers (RS), 5-9, DS
JUNIORS: Taelor Kellum, MB, 6-2 Allie Monserez (RS), S, 5-9 Ann Bzoch (RS), 5-5, DS
SOPHOMORES: Allie Gregory, DS, 5-6 Rachel Kramer, MB/RS, 6-8 Darielle King, MB, 6-3 Chanelle Hargreaves, DS, 5-4 Morgyn Greer, OH, 6-3 Cheyenne Huskey, S, 6-2
FRESHMEN: Paige Hammons, OH, 6-2 Mia Sokolowski (RS), OH/RS, 6-4 Camille Nieves (RS), DS, 5-7

With Florida hosting the VERT challenge in 2017, and Texas and Florida most likely matching up after not facing each other in 2016, I'm definitely interested in seeing how the roster and potential lineup shakes out. Seems like Holston has been at Florida forever; she will not be easily replaced.

I couldn't bear to come to Volleytalk after last night until now. That match is undoubtedly the most disappointing Florida match I can recall. To be up seven points in the third set and fritter the lead away, to be up match points in the third set and blow them, to let FSU have an early lead in the fourth, to be up a few points in the fifth and disintegrate — it was all too much. And the fact that it was FSU makes it all the worse. But good for them — they have something that I think Florida has lacked: mental toughness and continued confidence when things aren't going their way.
Florida is better physically than FSU, just as it is Kentucky and Missouri, but the Gators became a team of head cases in those matches. I'm convinced Florida has the physical ability to contend with anyone but a few hitting errors or a few shanked serves or being blocked a few times can send them into a mental tailspin. I don't know if it is the personality of the players or how coaching can change that ,but I hope somehow they can develop a tough mentality
Whew, OK, it's out of my system now.
As far as next year? At this point I just don't see Florida having an effective right-side hitter to replace Holston in Joseph. No offense, she seems like a neat person, but nothing she has done in any position so far convinces me she will be effective there, and certainly not even close to the level of Holston. And I kind of don't understand why Mary kept Joseph at outside so long through season when she was so inconsistent. I would rather have seen her go all-in on Greer at outside — think of the learning and experience she would have now — and substitute Joseph in for Holston when circumstances allowed.
Hopefully the work Rhamat has been doing on the slide will pay off next year to help with a right-side attack. Kramer, with some added muscle, will be a much stronger terminator and will have a better sense for the game next year. I think Florida will be fine at middle. I'm sure Greer will make a lot of progress in the off-season, so I think her and Snyder will hold down the left side well.
I still have a bitter taste of the 6-2 from when Florida ran it a few years ago, but I'm coming around to it if it will get Huskey more playing time. She would give Florida more versatility and I think she's too good to keep off the court until Monserez is done. I wonder if Huskey would even stick around for that time instead of transferring.

Same as Florida in 2016, lots of talents and zero player development.

There will be 6 players on next year's roster who have redshirted previously. We'll likely add another 1 or 2 next year. Is using that many redshirts common? Obviously this year was our biggest roster ever and next year we'll have 18 as well, if no one transfers.
I'm concerned we have too many players to effectively coach and develop. Looking at the list a majority of them are DSs, arguably Florida's biggest weakness, so I get why we have a lot. But even then, do we have the resources to develop them?
Likely 2017 "depth chart":
OH: Snyder Hammons Greer Sokolowski
MB: Alhassan Kramer King Kellum
RS: Joseph Sokolowski Kramer
S: Monserez Huskey
L/DS: Knop Gregory Dubiel Hargreaves Rogers Bzoch Nieves

LOL at Knop leaving Michigan to play on a team that is more competitive and had a better chance at a National Championship. LOL. She'll be home next week, headband and all, eating popcorn, watching the Michigan Wolverines in Sweet 16 play on..... DUMMY.

Hardly, I'm too old... and I didn't play at UM. I played at another BigTen school. I just hate today's athlete, their entitlement and free-for-all transfers.

Maybe she just wanted to play her natural position and not have to be a 5-8 OH in the Big Ten. She still has a better shot to win a title at Florida, which is funny regardless of who you're for in this argument.

Also wasn't it said that Knop was asked to leave the UM team?

I don't care how she got to Gainesville, I'm just glad she did. She's been a big plus for Florida this year and seems to enjoy playing here.
It's interesting how some of us seem to think players will be devastated and view their choice of school as wrong if a national championship isn't won. I suspect the friendships they develop with their teammates, the life lessons they learn from playing and the education they get are what ultimately stick with them regardless of a championship.

Players on championship teams experience all that plus, you know...the championship.
