they should've given TCB's spot to Cynthia, she's gonna be around a lot longer than TCB so why not give the younger player that experience? Maybe even Jordan Larson!! ;D. This is the second straight Olympics that USA has a team captain that is more of a cheerleader. In 2000 it was Weston and now it is the GREAT, HONORABLE and in case people forgot, the 1995 FIVB PLAYER OF THE YEAR TARA CROSS BATTLE

Too bad no one will see the China-Cuba match today, for instance. I got it taped (at least what was aired). It was on Bravo from 6am CT. If you want it let me know.

Thanks, but I did watch a lot of it. I just meant there wouldn't be a big audience for it (on Bravo at 6am).

Wow! This is a huge upset. I thought everyone dismissed D.R.'s chances of advancing past the 1st round, and here they are, upsetting the higher-ranked and much-touted US team. I guess it just shows you that in Olympics, anything can happen. I still think DOM won't advance to the 2 nd round but this loss could be pricy for the US especially when the whole pool is looking like a rollercoaster.

Overreacting by the usual board lemmings, as usual.
USA Women had a bad match. So what. You regroup and go on. They still control their own destiny in this tournament. Finish out pool play with two wins and make the crossover round, and this loss is a moot point.

Apparently even Japanese coaches are not away from having favorite players even though it shouldn’t be due to their culture. I absolutely agree with all people who are questioning why Metcalf doesn’t start. I watched her some of her games in Serie A and IECL. May be not that spectacular but always gets the job done. Quite a reliable all around player plus the fact her international experience is much higher compared to Haneef.

I think that whenever Toshi subs in Nnamani for Phipps, he should also sub in Metcalf for Haneef. Nnamani isn't going to be the passer that we would all like her to be and Metcalf is a much better passer than Haneef. He should try utilizing this pattern in the future.
However, beating both Russia and Cuba will be extremely tough. The only hope is that we can outdig and outhustle the taller Russians and that Cuba will play another 5 setter against the Dominican Republic (unlikely) so that they will be tired from having played four five set matches before Sunday's showdown.

NBC's schedule is wrong, again. this match is on NBC right now, on the East coast. US looked like total crap in game 1.

NBC just got done showing game two and said they will go back to it.
How many times in a row did the DR block the US? And then turn right around and look like they're playing high school ball? I understand it's one loss and everything, but these are the freaking Olympics! The annoucers just said "well, it looks like the starters were sleepy." It's the Olympics! They shouldn't be sleepy! Maybe it just seems like it should be a big deal to me who is not a high-caliber athlete.

Game three. USA getting outblocked, 11-7. Or so the annoucers say!

You just knew it wasn't the US's night when in game 1, a substitution was made, but they held up the wrong paddle number, so the US had 2 setters on the floor, I forget who went in for who.

Just finished watching the end of the match. US passing was bad. Robin was limited in her setting b/c of it, and that allowed the Dominican block to be a real factor. Tara Cross Battle should be benched. Haneef is the biggest liability. Metcalf should be starting and playing much much more. For someone so tall, Haneef almost appears afraid to block and she doesn't get much on her hits. Disappointing loss for the US. It seems like everyone is just a notch or two below where they should or could be, it's contagious.

Why is it our MB's have only one block a piece? Did Logan get hurt?

Why is it our MB's have only one block a piece? Did Logan get hurt? She twisted her ankle. Toshi said he didn't know what the extent of it was, but her ankle was heavily wrapped after she hurt it in game 2.
