Yeah, I would like Toshi to give Nancy a chance and start her. From her limited playing time so far, she has been on the money with her kills. Also, the MBs are not being a real factor in the matches so far. The only things they seemed to hit are the slides. There weren't many quick attacks or combos. Somehow the US system became very predictable. And throw in Ogonna too. Besides her hitting, I think her defense has been quite impressive, more so than Tara's.

Based on Phipps and Haneef's performance, I would start Nancy and Ogonna..

Oh man, I just opened my e-mail from nbcolympics.com, clicked to the link for volleyball and found out Team USA lost to the Dominan Republic(DOM) I haven't read all the posts yet here about Team USA's third match against Team DOM, but I'm sure they're just as surprised at the end result. Last week I read here that Team USA shouldn't worry too much about Team DOM and that Team DOM is an international mediocre team, but I also read that we(USA) may not do well. Seems to me the naysayers were right about us(USA). Looking forward to see how USA play on the late-show broadcast. thought this was supposed to be an easy match? U.S. just lost G3, 27-25.

NBC's schedule is wrong, again. this match is on NBC right now, on the East coast. US looked like total crap in game 1. You're right again Gatorvball. I had a funny feeling that NBC was gonna change it on us again - don't know why but I did, so co-workers and I checked nbcolympics Web one more time and sure enough they'll be showing volleyball but not the Holly/Elaine match but TeamUSA/Team DOM match. We're gonna turn on the TV in the conference room right now. How does NBC expect viewers to stay tune and watch the Olympics if they keep doing this?

sad to watch our friends struggle against DOM. I understand everyone's opinion about who should be in and who should be out. but i think it's still lack of leadership when it's crunch time. I wish Ah Mow could step up as a leader. imo the setter should always run the show and set the game mode and maintain that mode. this is the same problem they had in sydney. that's my observation thus far.

The US team is a team in transition. Many of the starters will be done after this Olympics and the national team will move on with a whole new crop of younger players for the next worlds.
Gone: Cross-Battle, Phipps, Scott, Ah-Mow, Sykora and if they don't make it out of their pool: Yoshida.
I didn't see any enthusiasm on the court today and like the China match they looked like deer in the headlights.
Several of the players are one-dimensional, which makes substitution to uitilize their positive quality a trial by fire when their lesser skills are demanded.
I'm very disappointed by this group of players particularly after the showing the team made in the last Olympics (when several key players were at their peak).

Based on Phipps and Haneef's performance, I would start Nancy and Ogonna.. If Logan is hurt bad enough that she can't play the next match then starting Ogonna in place of Keba. Starting Nancy in place of Tayyiba sounds reasonable though. If the poor passing keeps up I'd consider starting Lindsey instead of Robyn as well since Lindsey was forced to put up good sets on poor passing during her 4 years at Minnesota.
So as not to leave Beachman without a comment to flame at as well. Where is the production from all of those LBSU players he keeps bragging about being on the US team?
I hope it doesn't, but if the unthinkable happens and the US either doesn't make it out of pool play, or loses in the quarters / semis before getting a medal (because of the weaker performances to this point in pool play giving them tougher matchups) will all of the pundits turn on Toshi as being a terrible coach like they did with cinsidering Lyskevich to be a terrible coach after the 1996 team failed to get a medal?

If the US does not get out of pool play with its #1 ranking, Mick Haley will now be seen as a genius for the surprising 4th place finish in Sydney. ;D

OH MY - Haley a genius? I'm sick at the thought. I agree with Gorf about putting Berg in. I'm unimpressed with Ah Mow's ability to run the offense. If the U.S. just wanted the ball to be predictable, they should have had Cepero set. At least she's a solid block. And leave Ogonna in the entire match already! I vote for Mary Wise to coach the national team. Mary, if you're reading this, make the move. ;D

LOL. You're right, Gator. If I'm going to make statements like that I should really speak my mind.
Mary, if you're reading this, dump Florida and the National gig and go to Iowa. They need you the worst. ;D

I think that whenever Toshi subs in Nnamani for Phipps, he should also sub in Metcalf for Haneef. Nnamani isn't going to be the passer that we would all like her to be and Metcalf is a much better passer than Haneef. He should try utilizing this pattern in the future. i have to agree. when haneef is on she's terrific but she seems to be struggling this year. metcalf looked good in the volleymasters when tayyiba didn't play becos of her ankle injury. would toshi do it? >-(Gorf)-<[} link=board=general&thread=1092813233&start=66#4 date=1092866179] If Logan is hurt bad enough that she can't play the next match then starting Ogonna in place of Keba. Starting Nancy in place of Tayyiba sounds reasonable though. with all her responsibilities on the court, can they afford to not play tom against russia? in sydney, she also twisted her ankle but she was able to play on. is there any update on how her ankle is doing? i say theraphy -- ice, heat, electro-stimulation 24 hours a day. to find the silver lining, she's only 23. they still heal early. or atleast i hope.

Whether you like him or not, that's an incredibly pathetic thing to say about the man. Why such hate? Oh yeah, it's a medal, not a metal.

Several of the players are one-dimensional That's a better phrase than my "lack of depth" analysis, but both are compataible. Was stunned to see Lindsey Berg still so much overweight. I saw her in college and the USPV, but I thought that a year or so on The National Team, with their conditioning program, would get her in shape.
