THANK YOU VBCOACH. if they only knew So that warrants calling him a sex offender and saying he shouldn't be around women? Come on, give me a break. It's one thing if you don't like the man and he rubs you the wrong way or you don't like the way he has treated people in the past, but leave the insults for another message board. One thing you cannot deny, whether you like him or not, the man is a winner and he has been successful at every level. Seems like most of his athletes like him enough to stay for 4 years and compete and learn under him.

VBCoach, Lindsey Berg is NOT overweight. That is her body type. Period. She has long, strong legs and a short torso. If you don't think she is in shape playing with the National Team, you are mistaken. This is also why people continually underestimated her VB ability. I knew that when I criticized Lindsey's conditioning that I would hear from you guys (Gorf & (R)uffda).) Sorry, I respect you guys a lot, but just look at her face. Too much subcutaneous fat. I might point out other volleyball players who, despite years of H. S. and College volleyball, are fat. Michelle Quan (UCLA and USPV.) Tell me Elaina Oden wasn't VERY HEAVY, even when she was on the National Team in 1992. Other stocky players who WERE in shape include 6' setter Carolyn Becker of the 1984 Olympic Team and current player, 6' 3" Heather Bown. Other SHORT stocky players who were in shape include former USC and current beach player Tracy Lindquist and MVP of the recent USA Nationals Nicole Davis. I know that this is a touchy subject, calling a player fat, but, hey, it's OK to say that a player isn't any good (or IS very good,) should be on The National Team (or SHOULDN'T be on The National Team,) ect. So if we can say that a player is crummy or great, we should also be able to say that a player is in crummy shape or great shape. We can also say that a former National Team Coach is psycotic, as one poster said on this very thread! Oh, that was me........ Of course, I might just be having a crummy day.

You don't get it. You can't be on the National Team and be out of shape. Do you realize how many hours of training are done by these athletes?

>-(Gorf)-<[} link=board=general&thread=1092813233&start=88#5 date=1092891661] Much easier said than done. Plus, could you have recruited all of those "loaded guns"? Mick didn't recruit those "loaded guns." Former coach Jerritt Elliott did. Jerritt had the nations top recruiting class two years in a row just before Mick took over. Success breeds success, so now Mick (probably, Paula) can recruit other great players, who, like most people without inside information, know nothing of Micks' tenure with The National Team.

Ok, so he didn't recruit all the guns. But he's been coaching them. If he was that bad, you'd think a few of them would've gone elsewhere. I know that when I hear of coaches who are not well liked, generally, players transfer out en masse. I just think a lot of people hate a winner and will do anything to give him a bad name. No, I'm not privy to what went on with the national team, nor do I really care. I just look at his current and former players and most seem to have liked him and liked playing for him. He can't be that bad.

It's true that Jerritt recruited April Ross and company but Mick was already appointed as USC head coach in summer 1999, and he sat down with Jerritt and Paula with a 5-year plan that began with recruiting the best players possible. Most of the players in the consecutive No. 1 recruiting classes knew that they would be playing for Mick when they committed to USC.

When I watched the US team in Bangkok a few weeks ago, Lindsey Berg looked fine to me. She did not looked overweight or out of shape but you could tell that she has a different bone structure than what you would expect for a typical vball player.
Also, in the tv/film industry, it is well known that you look extra 10-20 pounds more on tv/film, causing many of the actresses (especially) to starve themselves to pencil-thin figures.

Yes, they knew that they would be playing for Mick, but they had never PLAYED for Mick before, and knew nothing about what he was doing as coach of The National Team (as I posted before, only those with inside info actually knew, then or now.)

The TV camera didn't seem to make Logan Tom appear heavy! ;D Logan did look thin to me when I walked past the US team in bangkok. I actually had to to a double take on her. Hopefully that is due to her conditioning, and that she remains healthy.
