The Last of Us 2
Got back to the showdown between Abby and Ellie, played through it, watched a bunch of cutscenes thinking they’re setting up The Last of Us 3. Nope, game goes on.

Playing through that confrontation as Abby against Ellie was uncomfortable. Many people, myself included, intentionally let Ellie kill Abby.

Playing through that confrontation as Abby against Elly was uncomfortable. Many people, myself included, intentionally let Elly kill Abby. LOL! That's going a bit to the extreme. Happened a couple of times to me but it was unintentional. It was a bit uncomfortable for sure, as the programmers made sure both were right in their own way. A little surprised they made Ellie sound like a total b!tch during the encounter.

They basically completely changed Ellie's character from TLOU1.

The Last of Us 2 Finished it... I think they over-complicated the storyline. They want to tell a lot, which is good in understanding the motivation for revenge, but it killed the momentum in the gameplay by switching over to Abby and replaying the 3 days in Seattle. Seems like they were trying to write a movie for this game: two love triangles, sex scenes, revenge, forgiveness ... cannot complain enough about the history scenes and the cutscenes. Really slowed down the momentum. I’m going to play this on the next level up, but keep all my upgrades and attributes...New Game+. And whenever there is a cutscene, going to skip it.
The end mission, asked myself after I finished the game whether it was necessary at all. Just kind of reinforces the idea that Abby is the good person, not the blood thirsty revenge seeking daughter of...may have said too much.
If there is a TLoU3, not sure I would be into it.

To be fair, a lot of people change their character between age 14 and 19. And she had a lot of trauma to deal with. Sure, but it's still really dishonest. They also really changed Joel's character in an even more dishonest way, and he went from like age 48 to 53.

If there is a TLoU3, not sure I would be into it. Right, but Abby is not a good person. No matter how many times the game has us play with dogs or tries to make her friends (and dad) sympathetic, I could just never forget that she's the same person who brutally tortured a man to death at the beginning of the game in front of his family. Even if he "deserved" to die, the way she went about it was so gruesome that I just could not sympathize with her at all after that. Oh, and also, Joel was justified in his actions at the end of the first game because the Fireflies were a bunch of incompetent terrorists, and that includes Abby's dad. Druckmann tried to retcon this in the sequel, but I think it's nearly impossible to enjoy the story of this game if you enjoyed and really understood the story in the original. The writers' dishonest tricks may have worked if I didn't have the first game as a frame of reference. But I did. And the ending was just insulting and made no sense whatsoever. And yes, I would have zero interest in a The Last of Us 3 unless they retcon the second game out of existence and start over after the original. Anyway, after you finish your second playthrough, I highly recommend Ghost of Tsushima, which I enjoyed about a million times more.

i refuse to play the last of us 2 for what they did to ellie. not interested. You're not missing much. Mechanically, it's a pretty good game, but the story was completely botched. I only played it (with a free trial from GameFly) because I wanted to be able to critique it from having had the experience. I do enjoy the memes mocking it, though. In a lot of the negative reviews of the game, the comparisons that came up over and over were the new Star Wars movies and the final season of Game of Thrones. Both are accurate.

Been thinking about this all day, and in a way I’m not as motivated to play it again as I was with TLoU1. I’d like to, but not a must. Maybe I’ll move on to GoT or Days Gone...replay TLoU2 later on.
