Right, but Abby is not a good person. And yes, I would have zero interest in a The Last of Us 3 unless they retcon the second game out of existence and start over after the original. Anyway, after you finish your second playthrough, I highly recommend Ghost of Tsushima, which I enjoyed about a million times more.
Been thinking about this all day, and in a way I’m not as motivated to play it again as I was with TLoU1. I’d like to, but not a must. Maybe I’ll move on to GoT or Days Gone...replay TLoU2 later on. I haven't played Days Gone, but Ghost of Tsushima was probably my game of the year, though Yakuza: Like a Dragon is close.

I've been playing Jedi Fallen Order, since I got a month of EA Play for 99 cents. From a combat standpoint, it's largely focused on melee, as your only weapon is a lightsaber. It is possible to throw the lightsaber, but I haven't unlocked this ability yet. The lightsaber can also deflect blaster bolts back at enemies, and I've found this is easily the best way to deal with such enemies. There are also some force powers that can be used that are particularly useful against the harder enemies. Overall, I think the combat mechanics are quite fun, and I normally don't enjoy melee games that much, but there's enough variety here to satisfy me. There's also a pretty large focus on exploration, and while some of the mechanics are a bit annoying, it works out pretty well. The story is a bit of a mixed bag. It's not bad, but the dialogue and characters feel a bit generic. It's a pretty good Star Wars game, and those have been rare recently.

I still have not finished HZD. As with many open world games, I find I was more interested in exploring the open world than in playing the big staged boss battles. I've not been playing many games at all, actually. But I did play a game of Stellaris over the weekend. The Star Foxes of the Glorious Star Fox Overden didn't technically win the game, but only because I was in a big, powerful federation and one of my federation allies had more victory points. Essentially my federation won the game, so I called it a win. On a whim I bought a game I've been interested in for a while: Heaven's Vault. It's sort of a modern "adventure" game. You play an archeologist who sails between "moons" in some kind of a "nebula" with "rivers" that flow between them. Anyway, a big part of the game is that you keep finding inscriptions in ancient text that you need to learn to decipher. I'm pretty sure there is no combat in the game, and so far I have not encountered any timed puzzles either (although I understand there are a few). The game actually rewards you for taking your time and looking around, although you also have this somewhat annoying robot companion who keeps suggesting you should move on quickly. Reviews have been mixed. www.polygon.com/reviews/2019/4/16/18311381/heavens-vault-review-ps4-steam-inkleAs this reviewer says, it's kind of interesting to play an archeologist who actually does, you know, archeology rather than "raiding tombs" and slaughtering monsters or enemy soldiers. On the other hand, slaughtering monsters and enemy soldiers is exciting. Wandering around and trying to read the inscription over a fireplace is not so exciting.

I remember some of the boss fight being tough on the normal level. The story get a bit better, thought it started slow but then picked up. Game play got more enjoyable the more you develop new skills. Wish they could have expanded the worlds more because it seemed like the visit to each planet was restricted to a certain area.

Yeah, when I got to the end of the third planet, there were a mix of melee and ranged enemies. After a minute or so, an AT-ST suddenly entered the fray, so I had to deal with all of them at once, which was really annoying. Basically, I just kept rolling around and attacking the AT-ST's legs when I had a chance. Then, I had to get some distance on the melee enemies so that I could deflect the blaster bolts to kill the ranged enemies. Then, I had to pick off the melee enemies one by one. By the end of this, I was nearly dead after having used five health stims, and I had already upgraded my health pool twice. I think if I did it again, I could probably do it a bit easier, as it took me a while to figure out the best way to prioritize threats in this fight.

I am enjoying this Heaven's Vault game. It's an interesting exercise in storytelling. Wolfgang would absolutely hate it.

Finished a playthrough of Heaven's Vault. It became obvious that while I reached the end of the game, I had not anywhere near found all the backstory hidden in the game. And the ending itself is rather anti-climactic, which strongly implies that the point of the game is not to "beat" it, but to *play* it. To find all the hidden secrets and puzzle out the whole story. There are *many* choices you can make along the way, and they are a lot more open-ended than just "choose to kill or spare" this person, which is what most games consider "meaningful choices". I played the whole game with the main character completely distrustful of her boss at the university, hiding every secret she could, etc. I also didn't visit a lot of places I could have gone to, because while the game guides you to certain choices, if you just sail your ship elsewhere you can explore what you like. I found a way to get to the final location almost by accident. Once you do, though, you basically cross a threshold where you can't back out of the ending. Spoiler for the ending: You end up being given a choice that will either take you and one companion on to a new adventure (which you don't get to see -- the game ends) but leave everyone else doomed to a slow death, or else you can choose not to do that, which you are told also dooms everyone (including yourself) to a (somewhat slower) slow death. Basically, the entire culture you live in is not actually sustainable, and you can either hurry the process but escape by yourself or let everything slowly stagnate anyway.

Days Gone is one of the PS Plus games for April, which is nice. I'm not sure I would have bought it, but I'll check it out when it's available.

Played all the way through another game of Heaven's Vault. This game also has a "new game +" mode, but instead of having more weapons or whatever, you can retain your knowledge of the ancient script. So you can read more inscriptions and learn new words. And the words get more complicated, with more compounding. Also, the two major choices at the end: The first time I decided to "vault", and left everyone else to die while I sailed on to wherever the ship was going when it crashed. The second time I chose to shut down the machine, and I didn't die the way I expected. Apparently, I have released the water that the ship was trying to recover (which is why the nebula was slowly withering away). Possibly I have revitalized it and may even be able to sail home with my new knowledge, but the game still ends.

OK, played my third playthrough of Heaven's Vault. I'm thinking that will probably be my last.
It's interesting, because I'm sure there are more storylines buried in here. For instance, there is a dude who has a major crush on you, but you can manage to bring a new woman to his library, and if you do then he falls for her instead. You can make your robot pal like you, and if he does then certain things open up. Or you can make him hate you, and those choices disappear because he won't help you.
There is a certain item you can get. The first time I showed it to people, gave it to my friend to look at, and then still had with me when I ended the game (early). The second time I gave it to my friend again, but let her keep it longer. My boss wrecked her house and stole it from her, so she wasn't my friend anymore because she blamed me. The third time I kept it secret from my boss, so I was able to give it to my friend and let her figure out how it worked. Then I gave it to my boss.
Every time I did things in different orders, and while mostly the same things happened to me, I had different dialog.
=========
The meta of all this is that most of the people in this game believe in "the loop" -- the idea that everything happens again and again, and the same people live the same stories over and over. But your character finds out (confirms, really) that this isn't true. Except ... if you play the game over and over, it kind of *is* true! When you first play the game, your name is Aliya Elasra, and some people think you are the reincarnation of an ancient sailor named Mazwai. But on my third playthrough, my name was Aliya Mazwai, and some people thought I was the reincarnation of an ancient sailor named Elasra....
