I am still amazed that this thread is continuing. The people that think Kerri is a terrible selfish person will allways think that. I don't feel the need to stick up for her. Her career & the way she lives her life speaks for itself. Once again...I would gather that she doesn't give a damn what any of us says or thinks. This post started Kerri -Tokyo...Continues on the path of The Kerri Boycott of Chicago. Time to let it go & move on to AVP 2017!!!!👊🙌 I think the easiest way to judge if she has the personality flaws attributed to her so often is either to examine her own words - the Gandhi thing being a highlight of Kerri's tendency to climb up on the cross, or to look at how those who know her well view her. Perhaps GLRA could weigh in there, with regards to how Kerri is seen by the other playersYeah, I'm going to pass on that one. As for Kerri 2020, heck, if she wants to go for it, that's her prerogative. Personally, I'm skeptical about it actually happening because of age and injury history. IMO, her game is declining - little things, like passing/setting footwork getting sloppy because she's lost 1/4-1/2 step, and her block is getting up just late enough to allow hitters a larger window - but she's still the best "big" the US currently has to offer, by some distance. That said, Father Time is undefeated and Kerri's right arm is almost literally hanging by a thread. If I'm April, I ride Kerri for the upcoming season in order to make some good dough, and then pick up Sara Hughes in 2018 for the run to the Olympics. Little known fact (I think): April is an outstanding blocker.

(1) Who truly cares if Kerri plays in Tokyo 4 years from now? She was awesome for years, but does anyone really think that she will be a part of one of the top 2 USA women's teams in 4 years? (2) Am I the only one who liked both rule changes? Of course the reason she bailed on Chicago was because Casey did not get on - c'mon folks!

Yes - she's the best U.S. big by quite a bit right now. If her shoulder holds up, she's playing in Toyko and the idea she should "step aside" for younger players is ridiculous. 2. No - I was (and am) a fan of those minor rule changes. Also, it's legit to criticize her poor decision to not play in Chicago. Not so important to get into whether other players like her. 95% of the tour thought Sinjin was a d**k back in the day. Who cares?

I agree Crawfish....I believe Kerri is in Tokyo if her shoulder holds up. Maybe another surgery before than, who knows. I don't believe it will be with April though.
When will it be announced if the rule changes will be permanent? Any news on this Geddy?

The best big in the US right now may be April Ross, if she wanted to move to the net, which its becoming more and more apparent is the best place for her. Kerri could definitely make the Olympics, health allowing, because there are very few up and comers dedicated to a beach career right now. Other than Claes/Hughes, there are no players currently on tour with the potential to be better than a Kerri diminished by 30%. Maybe the college pipeline kicks in by then, but maybe not. However going to the Olympics and contending there are two very different things, just ask Lauren Fendrick. I also like the rule changes. I don't think its important if other players like her - you are correct that Sinjin, and other top guys, were widely viewed as arrogant dicks- but I think how the other players perceive her is important. Even the most hostile player could not have denied that Sinjin pre-1994 was great for the sport. I think its relevant and instructive if other players see Kerri as having a negative impact on the sport or as being hostile to the AVP

Every single comment you make is negative and is always hostile against Kerri. Seriously, enough. We get it! You don't like her. Although she has 3 gold medals, 1 bronze and played indoor in another Olympics. I respect her for that and you should too. Ps: PLEASE don't reply. Bye E.Y

Some thoughts: To speculate on Kerri 2020 is REALLY a stretch. However you feel about her, she's got a tough journey and I'm sure she's quite aware of it. ANY player post 40 knows the drill (OK, well, maybe not Hyden, but everybody else)...So, she's got a goal and knows its NOTHING like Athens, etc.
Yes, the field is weak out there and expecting some UCLA, Pepperdine, etc. "student" to blaze out of the gates and take over the AVP and steam on to Tokyo is ANOTHER stretch. I DID leave out Sara, but lets see this all "over time" rather than "...a very good year".
This guy's a "d**k", etc. Most of us want "palatable" players. Few were enamored with Todd Rogers during his heyday, but HE DELIVERED. Whether I "like" somebody is now why I "watch" somebody. I appreciate both side (Attitude/performance). Why else would I watch some of the players I watch...Not all players can probably play to the elite level without a certain "attitude" and ALL were raised differently...
It seems the ONLY fact we have here on Kerri is that she IS playing with April this year and that, BY DEFINITION, supersedes many of the arguments here.
AND, lastly, regarding the AVP rule changes...BIG fan of Donald Sun; HE SAVED US YOU GUYS...You can splice it out however you want, but I'm going to Huntington in a month BECAUSE of his actions. NOW, is it profitable, IS it a good investment? Well, have lunch with Donald and ask him, otherwise, enjoy what he is putting on our plate. BUT, the FIVB IS the 800lb gorilla, so I'd leave rule changes to them, at this point...
AM I a Walsh/Sun shill? Well, facts are facts and I like to see them posted here and thanks to the GLMRA, klazk, guest, etc. who DO seem to bring many in...I was always a underdog fan, so watched April/Jen over Walsh/May, but realize how Kerri "gets the job done"....

I think Kerri is the best female player ever and I don't think its close at all. Even the post you quoted is not negative about Kerri. I highlighted a few things for you, including where I said I think she makes the Olympics in 2020. I don't think suggesting April may be better now is particularly harsh given that April is one of the two best players in the world.

I DID leave out Sara, but lets see this all "over time" rather than "...a very good year". So much depends on qualification. Not counting Sara Hughes, there is zero chance anyone other than April is close to Kerri this year. That means in Year 2, Kerri will still have a very high seed in FIVB events. This theoretical college dynamo would have to spend a lot of time playing in qualifiers, drawing pools with Larissa, Laura, Agatha, April etc. in them to work their way to a decent seed, coming off pool second or third, playing tough games just to get to 9th, learning to travel etc. Then factor in how easy it is for a team with a top seed to keep getting points without playing anyone good. Kerri/April won multiple events last year where they played no matches or one match against an FIVB top ten team. Whoever that hypothetical person is who would knock Kerri off her perch, has an uphill climb if qualification stays the same.

Also guest, I think April has upped her game and, for me, it started after Kerri serving underhand in that FIVB Long Beach a year and a half ago. She really started making better, smarter players and fewer "rolled eyes" shots that she had in the day of Kessy/Ross, IMO . . . regardless, you can't ignore April at the top of the heap and agree its a tough call "whos the best, TODAY" (which changes TOMORROW) !

Couldnt agree more with the benefit Kerri's injury had on April. I think that team has always had a case of two Alpha syndrome and it helped April to really assert herself (that could be pop psychology, but I dont think its a coincidence that April reacted so positively to suddenly having to shoulder a massive load)

guest2, just wish she had done some of "that" in the Olympics (didn't seem to me that she had as killer-an-approach)...May be wrong, but seemed that way for what I watched...

Kerri and Ross two of the all time great players. Kerri just makes decisions that are terrible.

I absolutely love Kerri, and she has been amazingly consistent for so long now. However, to say that there is not a single player on tour with the potential to be better than a Kerri diminished by 30% is just plain silly. Randy with Sinjin - one of the best (if not the very best) ever, and widely acclaimed as the best big setter and blocker of his era. Randy after Sinjin - not even remotely close. Sure he was older, but so was Karch, and he still won a ton after Kent. Todd with Dax - really good, very consistent, and considered a great defender. Todd with Phil - in the discussion for best defender and small sideout guy ever? My point being that to say that no one, given 3 1/2 years of play with the right partner, could even get within 30% of a 42 year old, bad shoulder Kerri is, IMHO, quite a stretch.
