I was checking on upcoming events and saw a couple interesting things. First all the US teams (except Kerri) are playing Moscow, even though its only 75k. Seems a little odd because while thats not China, its not a simple trip either.
The second thing is the NY AVP is 87,500, which is an odd number - and the end of seasons are 112,500 - also unusual. Is that an increase a decrease or is there some other reason for the weird numbers? Anyone know?

Doesn't USAV (and FIVB after you make main draw) comp 4 teams each gender? See the world and keep your earnings

NYC last year was 75k per gender (for the record, I have no idea what wiwii is talking about)

That would be a good point except in the past, a lot of the big names have passed up events at cooler places because the money was that low.

For NY AVP it's an overall $25,000 increase. Round number. Modest but a good sign. Looks like Sun provided some incentive for the players to sign the agreements.
And I agree with wiwii that teams get paid by USAV to play FIVB, so not much downside in going regardless of purse size.

Looking at the early women's entries for NY, I see some interesting teams: Summer/Sweat (so they have signed on?) Carico/Pavan
And out of college, Howard/Quiggle and others.

BVBinfo is listing Ross and Sweat in NY. So they're signed with the AVP?

BVBinfo is listing Ross and Sweat in NY. So they're signed with the AVP? I believe they were registered for the others too. I assume avp.com will give the official list next week.

Especially considering the schedule is: 1. Moscow 2. New York 3. Hague - 75k but most teams already registered 4. Seattle 5. Porec - 300k With no breaks. Maybe US teams are just being more ambitious in their willingness to travel. Would be nice to see. I wonder if a lot of teams might not skip Seattle again this year. I think West Coast events can get short shrift because of the added travel

Ambitious, or bills to pay? Last I knew players were on their own dime for AVP travel? If no sponsor funds and small bracket with small pay out, hard to break even? If true , means lots more hours on their "day job".

If true , means lots more hours on their "day job". You're right for most teams, but the ones that dont need to worry about that are also the same ones USAV pays for I believe. I think its only four teams? Do they pay for the others? I could be wrong about that

AFAIK, USAV pays for travel for some teams (four for each gender?) to FIVB events. I don't believe they pay for AVP travel. Sponsors might.

I like the Pavan/Carico pairing... I'm a Lane fan so hope this is the partner that she can make waves with (at least on American soil)
