Fendrick/Ross down early in set 1 against one of the German teams (the worst seeded out of the 4 in the elim bracket).

Great win for them. LL/KW coming back from injury but still. Maybe April should have gone with Summer. That side of the bracket is wide open now. Highest seed left to stop the US is the extremely beatable Czechs. Great opportunity for Summer Sweat and April

Brooke and Summer win! April and Lauren lose. A bit of a disappointing finish for them.

Brooke and Summer win! April and Lauren lose. A bit of a disappointing finish for them. I think thats at least a 5th for Summer Sweat. Another great result for them. Should have a great seed next event too.

Should have a great seed next event too. As this is their second tourney, there may not be a "book" on them. Of course, I would assume the book is "serve Brook volume XXXV".

So, Phil and Nick won 21 - 12 21 - 9 in the 2nd round, against Aussies who beat the silver medalists Italians 1st round. Bryl / Fijalek will be a good match for them next.
Cerutti / Oscar Schmidt (BRA) vs Samoilovs / Smedins (LAT) will also be a great match up.

Really good win for Summer/Brooke, although Ludwig/Walkenhorst have been shaky all season.
Anything can happen in one match, but Fendrick/Ross shouldn't be losing to Borger and her new partner - who is playing her first season of beach volleyball at age 30 after moving from indoor.
The Pavan/Humana-Paredes juggernaut came to a screeching halt, albeit against a good team.
Final eight teams on the women's side: three German teams (but not Olympic champs), three Brazilian teams, one US and one Australian. That about sums up the current balance of power these days.

My previous post might have sounded negative towards S&S, didn't mean it that way. I really enjoyed watching them in Ft. Lauderdale this year.

My previous post might have sounded negative towards S&S, didn't mean it that way. I really enjoyed watching them in Ft. Lauderdale this year. I thought the two losses that they took in Ft. Lauderdale were more indicative of that team than the win, but after their loss yesterday they have been destroying teams. 11/12, 16/15, 19/13. Maybe its weather or opponents, but they are taking advantage. I could see this team becoming a Casey/Jake type team, the kind of team that wins the matches they should and plays very consistent grinding volleyball. Of course one if I were Summer I would be calling April every week and saying, "look what I am doing with Brooke, and wouldn't you like to be swinging at some of these sweet hand sets"
