Ludwig/Walkenhurst 100% in, no one can see a path for them NOT to be picked.. Do we think they go down to 15 for Ross/Fendrick? Or down to a T16 for SH/KC? I'm hoping Ross/Fendrick get the wildcard. Fingers crossed!! When do they announce the wild cards...

Actually, this ranking is from the FIVB World Ranking, meaning Sara/Kelly are 12th and April/Lauren are 18th! I believe this FIVB World Ranking is the best 8 finishes while FIVB World Tour Ranking is the points accumulated this season. I think they should go with FIVB World Tour Rankings because that's for this season. Isn't World Tour Finals for the conclusion of THIS season??

If any USA team deserves a wildcard on the women's side it's Sara & Kelly....imo If you are picking a wild card for your event, are going to choose a couple of 21 year old kids that have never won anything of significance. Or, are you going to choose a team that has a player with 2 Olympic medals and a silver medal at last week's World Championship? I think if your going by tour rankings you have to pick the kids, but I have no idea how Wildcards are picked....

It's picked based on a variety of reasons, but for one, it's to attract more fans/viewers. Remember how in Porec, Croatia, Ivan Perisic and his teammate were picked as a wildcard although Ivan wasn't even a beach volleyball player, but an established soccer player instead. The only reason was because he is from Croatia. They put him to play in center court and he ended up losing all three pooo play matches.

But we're just hoping one of the wildcards goes to another USA team 😬

At last, the wildcards have been announced!!
The remaining four men's teams are: Erdmann/Dollinger (Germany) Böckermann/Schumann (Germany) Saxton/Schalk (Canada) Brunner/Patterson (USA)
-I'm really surprised Casey and Theo got a wildcard. Fluggen has an injury, so Schumann will be the replacement in the meantime. I'm guessing Saxton/Schalk got a wildcard over the 2 Sams because they defeated Alison and Bruno in World Champs.
For the women's: Ludwig/Walkenhorst (Germany) Ross/Fendrick (USA) Bansley/Wilkerson (Canada) Hüberli/Betschart (Switzerland)
-As expected, Laura and Kira get the wildcard. April and Lauren get it too!! Yay! And the Canadian and Swiss team are part of the top 12 teams, so it was also expected. The women's are represented by six countries, two from: Brazil, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Canada, United States, and Germany.

With 2 teams from Brazil already in, there wasn't any room.

Alison and Bruno should be there....not fair. The winners get U$$100K?? More than WCH 60K? Yes, World Tour Finals have the largest payout. Brazil reached its maximum country quota (2 teams allowed from each country per gender). If you think about it, Alison and Bruno didn't do so well this year: their best finish was a gold medal in Rio 4 Star. Laura and Kira got in because they won gold last week and they're representing host country. They also had a bad year due to injuries.

Alison and Bruno did not do well or not as we would expect from them, and yeah they only won 1 event, but these 4 teams selected have won 0 events. Well, knowing that they pay more $$$ than the WCH it makes it even more unfair. Oh well....

Alison and Bruno lost out on the wildcards because Brazil already has two teams in the finals, even without the wildcards. The rules state that only two teams per country allowed per gender. This includes the wildcards. Alison and Bruno lucked out because this year, Brazil had two new team breakthroughs: Evandro/Andre and Saymon/Alvaro.

Their year was way better than Casey and Theo FIVB wise. I wonder if teams turned down invites? It would be hard to think that, with the large payout, but I guess teams could have declined. could be hard going MBO and Tour Championship back to back from Cali.
