Well, there's another perspective.

USe your crystal ball.............Kerri is out for 2020 Tokyo..........................who would you pick for April Ross to partner with? I'd learn to jump serve and run to the net and try to pick up Sara. Either that or Klineman Anybody coming out of college in 2018 or 2019 be considered too green to lock up even if they have world class potential as a player?

Honestly? Because nobody wants to put up with her sh!t. Its one thing to have a healthy ego but things can get over board.

A possible sleeper in the mist is Terese Cannon from USC. Solid 6'3", good timing, big arm swing and super smart. Coach C speaks of a big future for her.

I think elite talent will do fine in that time period. Kerri was a monster her first year and a lot of others were too. I just dont follow college closely enough to know who that player might be (or really follow it much at all)

Even before Rio she stopped doing it full time for whatever reason. No way she could jump serve and block full time, especially at her age.

Tons of older players do it, including almost all the US men. With her jump floater its probably not much harder than a standing float then going to the net. Working in the hard jumper may be more difficult but she could figure it out, particularly when there is a heavy good side

Lol, Brittany can be a little harsh on partners. There is a tendency towards partner-less days in the women's game when you play/act like a dude.

After watching Klineman in Manhattan, I was a bit underwhelmed....Maybe just an off-day, but didn't look elite in any way at this point...

I havent seen her play enough to say definitively, but often these giants fail the eye test because they are so awkward. If you saw Ryan without a point of reference (ie. so you didn't realize he was half-giraffe) you would think he was losing in pool play at a Santa Barbara Double A. Even my beloved Sarah Pavan looks very awkward at times, especially when she hits roll shots, even though those shots almost always go down

She just can't maintain it for an entire event, let alone a single match, the way she could 5 years ago. She's definitely lost some of her jumping ability and that would likely affect her blocking as well. Can't think of many women or men who became a full-time blocker with a full-time hard jumper only after age 35.

Can't think of many women or men who became a full-time blocker with a full-time hard jumper only after age 35. She never hit the hard jumper full time (from the bad side for example) but she did formerly use it much more and she should now. Im not sure why she gave it up, although she does have a nice jump float. Plus Hughes could spot block. For example if there was a heavy good side and April wanted to really rip serves, Sara isn't Brooke Sweat blocking. She is a liability up there but not a terminal one by any means. That switch hasn't really been done much before, although a few have tried, but 10 years ago you could say the same about players playing into their late 30s and having success. April would do fine as a blocker, as she has in the past. She isn't going to be Pavan or Kira, but she could easily be Talita or Fendrick and if Hughes develops into the elite defender so many project, that would work out fine (I'll believe that when I see it). Likewise if Claes can begin dominating the net, that partnership would also work out well for April but April needs major point scoring support at this point in her career. Too often when she plays top teams, April's team needs to sideout at an extreme level because they can't score points the way a team with someone like Larissa, Kira, Pavan, Ludwig, etc. can. Recently, and she was injured, April has seemed a lot closer to Anouk on D than to Larissa. I do love the prospect of Claes and Ross just destroying teams with jump serves though.

The only time they have played together Hughes had 4 blocks and April zero touches at the net. Almost no effort by her and were talking trying to block Caitlen Ledoux.
Hughes is faster & quicker than Ross and actually my have a higher reach with her vertical.
Ross does not have the speed to support Claes shortcomings in her blocking skills right now, imho. So there would be plenty of holes in their defense until KC block timing improves.

After watching Klineman in Manhattan, I was a bit underwhelmed....Maybe just an off-day, but didn't look elite in any way at this point... She has a lot of natural ability and a great personality, but yes good grief she has a long ways to go. I saw her in one match this year set the serve, and then later in the same match (maybe later in tournament) I saw her go up to block and the ball stuck between her hands when she came down. Like the most goofiest plays ever. She seems to me like she could be very good in a few years but has a long ways to go to iron out a lot of those little IQ and court intricacies that come from a player transferring out to the beach.

First year on tour, starting the season with no points and she ended up with a 2nd, 3rd, 2 7ths and a 9th place finish. That is WAY better than I (or most reasonable folks) would have expected. She did not come into season with a ton of beach experience (i.e., didn't play sand in college, didn't really play that much at the junior level given her indoor commitments). As for the goofy plays, that's to be expected when you're her height and you're learning the game. Pavan was just as awkward, if not more awkward, her first year and now she's perhaps the top blocker on the women's side. I'm bullish on Klineman if she is fully committed to putting in the work.
