Yeah, too much pressure on Alberts to make the move rather than keep the Dead Man Walking thing going for another three weeks. Nebraska eats some money, but IMO the best decision for all parties at this point. They couldn't wait a few more weeks to save millions? I'd say another dumb move by Nebraska's AD. Frost should have been canned after last season, or late last season so they could more as quickly as possible to find a top candidate. Yeah, if they were going to eat the entire buyout, they should have just fired him in December instead of wasting another season. Granted, there were a lot of top jobs open last year, and Nebraska might have been like the 10th-best job available. But still. They're unlikely to get a top candidate anyway.

Well, Frost has a lot of money now and as far as options, don't know. Hope he can stay in the present moment, and this too shall pass.

Wait a minute, where have I been? Scott Frost was fired? What have they lost , like 10 games in a row by single score. That’s crazy. Not exactly. They lost to Ohio State by 9 - so single digits but 2 scores. And they did beat North Dakota. So I think they might have lost the last 10 one score decisions. All of our victories last year were blowouts and we beat ND by 21 this year (though that score certainly was no indicator how close that game really was).

Whatever they did last time in their hiring process, don't repeat it. Get an impartial committee together that doesn't love former corn shuckers. Don't use any of the previous parties responsible for the Frost hire. Identify several well qualified candidates, bring them in for interviews and be prepared to pay up.

Or that it took too long? they are furious that he was fired? I have to admit I am surprised by the intense reaction to this? At least in my part of the world? People are livid.

WOW.
Nebraska was willing to spend $7.5M to fire frost today instead of 20 days from now? Nebraska is crazy.
Or was this some kind of deal, where they deliberately made sure the hometown hero QB got the big golden handshake?

Or was this some kind of deal, where they deliberately made sure the hometown hero QB got the big golden handshake? Yeah, Nebraska fans on Reddit are claiming that this move shows that they aren't cheap. But I just think it makes them look foolish. They already looked cheap when they didn't fire him last year when everyone knew he had to go, and the only reason they didn't was because of the buyout. So they've managed to actually have the worst of both worlds. They wasted another season and ended up paying his full buyout anyway instead of just moving on last year.

The Nebraska fans I've seen on Reddit seem happy that he's gone, but that's a crowd that skews younger. I suppose it's possible that there are older Nebraska fans that are upset with the firing, though it's hard to imagine why. His results speak for themselves.

I haven't seen or heard any comments today indicating that people I know are "livid" about Frost being fired. Many are surprised by the timing, but most had reached the point where they can't even get too fired up about the buyout issue. IMO Frost was a dead man walking after the loss last night (if not before that) and keeping him on for three more games would have been an untenable situation. The season may already be circling the drain, but this at least gives the players a chance to move forward in a new direction with coaches they know aren't going to be fired on or around October 1st.

I guess so. If they were going to fire him today, they should have fired him in December. As I said, it's the worst of both worlds. I don't think anyone really thinks that the interim coach will be retained, so that means he'll be fired on or around Thanksgiving, and they'll have a new coach anyway.
