I am a general VB fan that tuned in to watch the semis and finals. Had a question for Neb fans. It seems that Neb had a hard time getting out of the rotation when Sun/Swartzenback (spelling, sorry) were on the net for 2 of the 6 rotations. Lauren/MF are next to each other and thus together for 2 of 6 rotations. MF and Lauren seem to be the 2 best hitters, by far. Thus, I was wondering why they are not split up and MF/Swartz are paired and Lexi/Lauren are next to each other in order to perhaps balance the offensive somewhat. There were times in the semis when Sun/Swartz were up front and I was thinking...oh boy, how are they going to get a point as neither seem like they are that confident of a hitter at this point in their careers where as Lauren & MF just RIP the ball. I was also wondering why MF does not start out on the net at the start of the game in order to get more overall swings as the game goes along. I realize that the overall point is to have the setter in the back serving but still, such as BIG difference when she is up front. Just did not understand it from a strategy standpoint. Anyhow, seeing if someone that followed the Huskers could provide some perspective to a casual fan that watched the semis/finals wondered on the above items. Thanks. Me and my wife were talking about this too. I actually think because of the rotation, It may have been the difference of the match. If Nebraska got anything at allfrom Sun or anyone else outside MF and Stivrens they would have win the first game. Im not sure what John cook was thinking withthat lineup, unless Sun didnt have attacking issues throughout the course of the season.

Im not sure what John cook was thinking withthat lineup, unless Sun didnt have attacking issues throughout the course of the season. He wanted to get Sweet matched up across from Plummer instead of Hames. That paid off big time, but it's robbing Peter to pay Paul. What you get in defense, you lose in offense. Cook was willing to make that trade since he knew that making the match a scrappy defensive battle would be good for the Huskers' chances for the win.

I had no idea Sweet was such a great blocker? Why haven't we seen that?

The only reason I can think of as to why MF/LS are paired is because of Sweet's struggles. Sweet has struggled offensively just as much as Sun/Callie. MF is in two rotations in the front row with Sweet if my rotations are correct, one of which has Strivins in it. That one rotation takes out Strivin's best attack, the slide. Im obviously not a volleyball coach so that is probably wrong but its the only thing I can think of besides Cook's preference for different backrow or serve reception matchups. As for the starting rotations I'm not sure. Cook, from what I've observed, has mostly started with Hames serving, only varying it up in the tournament.

I had no idea Sweet was such a great blocker? Why haven't we seen that? Her block was the strongest part of her game through the season. While her hitting regressed her blocking got much better.

While her hitting regressed her blocking got much better. she rocked it in the tourney. Glad to see her out of her slump. She worked so hard in off season to better herself physically only to struggle. That has to be frustrating for a player.

Hey huskergeek , if you need help setting up a forum, I'd be willing to help. Work at flywheel/wordpress, so I could help you out on that end if you were thinking about going that route. If not and you just need some html help, I can do that also. At the moment, I'm just finishing up the WP theme for the primary site and data entry is (mercifully) pretty much done. In theory, once I get those parts sorted out setting up the forum should be a cakewalk, but we shall see.
