I think Nebraska fans need to get a little more educated on the future recruits coming in to Lincoln for 2018 season, THEY ARE LOADED GUNS! Nebraska will play 3/4 freshman next season, and it will be a reload. I expect another final 4 run next season for them. Cap Davis - to replace Anni Hames - to replace Hunter Miller - to replace Townsend 2nd MB position could be a toss as well! Those newcomers are lethal for NEB. Expect another title run! Archive this post! The only question I see is: Who will be the other 6-rotation player besides Foecke? Cook would like Sweet to be. Probably depends on whether or not they get a 6 rotation outside transfer.

Downer? Really? I am a realist. If Hames is as good or better than Carlini as a freshman, then Nebraska might have a chance next year. Find me anyone - ANYONE - who, before the season began, thought Nebraska would win the title this year. Carlini is the best setter Team USA has. I hope Carlini doesn't get discouraged with her recent shortcomings. She's as pure-a setter as they come. At the beginning of the season, it was all Texas and Stanford. Is that why Carlini has started every match as Team USA’s setter since graduating? 😂 I honestly think Jordyn Poulter will be our NT setter once she graduates.

You are way too much of a downer to be taken seriously anymore. You said we couldn’t hang with “real teams,” but we took out #1, #2, #4, and #5 on our way to winning No. 5. Cook started believing in the team’s potential after the first Penn St. match, but the players knew they could win the title after the first weekend. Your comment about Hames needing to be better than Carlini is setting the bar fairly low. How many Final Fours and National Championships did Carlini win? And you're comment about the "Carlini bar" being set very low is beyond ridiculous. Do you know how many world class athletes, hall of famers have never won a championship on a big stage? Plenty. SMH. Let’s put it this way: Over the 30 years Nebraska has been relevant in this sport, there are a handful of Nebraska setters that would be better comparisons or models of greatness than the overhyped Wisconsin setter.

We need another OH to fill Albrecht’s spot. That’s the big hole we have in our lineup. Hames will be the Setter. She’s very good but there will be growing pains I’m sure.
I’m hoping we can get a transfer hammer to come in and take Boender’s scholarship. Capri Davis could be the hammer to take the place of Albrecht. However, we can’t afford to count on a freshman to do that but it sure would be nice! 😎
Perhaps we could move one of the 3 middles outside. I don’t know about that though. Maybe Szabo or Sweet could move to the other side? Can Slaughter step into Anni’s spot?
We have some flexibility and time to work things out before the B1G season begins. A good transfer would alleviate some headaches though.

But transfers could change that. Nebraska looking for another ds transfer.

Ugh I know. We didn't even get four years with her as a starter. She will be greatly missed. We have the best possible replacement coming in though Do you know if she is a January enrollee? Hames could really benefit and help Nebraska transition faster to success in 2018. I haven’t seen any talk of her being a spring semester enrollee. Not January.

Mikaela Foecke has a chance to finish her Husker career very high on the Nebraska volleyball's career kills list. I believe she will finish with the 3rd highest total all time. Currently she sits at 1170 (16th) and needs 464 to pass Lisa Reitsma's career total of 1633 to claim sole possession of 3rd place. This year she finished with 441 kills in 125 sets for a per set average of 3.53. There is no reason to believe that they won't need to ride her even harder next year while also playing in more 4 and 5 set matches.
1) Sarah Pavan - 2008 2) Allison Weston - 1778 3) Lisa Reitsma - 1633 4) Nancy Metcalf - 1603 5) Jordan Larson - 1600 6) Kadie Rolfzen - 1564 7) Eileen Shannon - 1521 8) Virginia Stahr - 1395 9) Kathi DeBoer - 1372 10) Hannah Werth - 1286 11) Janet Kruse - 1269 12) Cris Hall - 1251 13) Jennifer Saleaumua - 1247 14) Melissa Elmer - 1210 15) Laura Pilakowski - 1183 16) Mikaela Foecke - 1170 17) Stephanie Thater - 1158 18) Amber Holmquist - 1122 19) Karen Dahlgren - 1121 20) Cathy Noth - 1051

No slowing me down playing curve at being a 6-rotation player. I expect to see Mikaela hit the ground running, and have an exceptional season.

Between Capri Davis and Slaughter we should come up with a solid or better second outside hitter on the left. I’m not sold if Densberger is the answer for the second DS spot. Right now her role is as maybe one of the six servers Nebraska puts on the floor in 2018. Nebraska has to replace 3of it’s six servers in 2018. Pretty big hole. The second middle looks solid. How does McClellan compare to Stivrins last year at this time? I know that John Cook thought in practice last year, Stivrins might of been Nebraska’s best middle.

They need a DS the most This is spot on. With Albrecht and Townsend using up their eligibility, Maloney is the only primary ball-handler coming back next year. Foecke will probably need to pick up some of that load and it sounds like they may find a way to keep Sweet on the court for all six rotations. In the absence of a court-ready transfer, Densberger or Miller will need to step up and fill the DS role covered by Townsend this season. And, if Sweet is not ready to play six rotations, both of them will have to be ready, as Nebraska could DS for two attackers as they did last year when they used DS's for both Foecke and Malloy.

I wish she would have red-shirted this season.

A realist wouldn't have thought Nebraska's serve game couldn't rattle Florida. This realist saw a team that had been smothering the competition with their serve game. Realistically, it was a no brainer. I don't mean to be rude, but you are the same realist who said "Nebraska is done" early in set 4 the other night against PSU...

The season is over. So, when the preparations for the 2018 seasons starts? Do they take a couple of weeks/months off from the volleyball gym/court?

Being a realist hardly makes me a prophet. Two totally different job descriptions.
