Cook is not a fan of the 6-2. Looking at next year's Huskers that would mean that he would need two outside hitters that could playing all six rotations or they would run out of subs a lot in close sets. I don't disagree that they would have the bodies on the right side to do it but I'm not certain that Harmes and Atherton are going to be close in terms of ability.

I would be very surprised if Cook ever ran a 6-2 if he didn't absolutely have to.

Yes; Coach Cook is not a fan of the 6-2. It's a losing proposition. And IMO: You might have the best setter coming in since Carlini, and your going to have her sit on the bench half the time - don't see that happening!

What is everyones thoughts on Atherton... if Hames is going to start next season - her career will be as a backup. Can she be a DS/Server or does she look to transfer? I agree with you. Going into this season she had been in Lincoln for a year and a half and still looked rough. Granted Tyler had only been there basically the summer. What happens with Szabo? Is she satisfied being a backup lefty to Sweet for three more years? Even when Sweet struggled she never came out so it's pretty clear Szabo isn't going to play much. See.... I don't believe it's all that clear. I think our coaching staff does a great job in not just coaching but also teaching, and helping players get to their highest level of competency. Again... I will use Fien as an example. Melissa Elmer is another player who improved drastically while she was here.

Only way Cook runs a 6-2 is if Lauren Cook is on the roster.

Yes; Maybe the best at purely 'setting the ball', but being a Floor General - not so sure!

I guess I just see Atherton having been in Lincoln for almost two years now in August she was clearly not at the level a Nebraska setter or back up needs to be. For a Fab 50 recruit she was clearly in over her head. Can she improve yes, I just expected more out of her having trained with the staff for as much time as she did to that point. When Szabo got playing time she was good, but when Sweet struggled Szabo sat. What was clear was that Sweet wasn't coming out and I have no problems with Sweet. I'm just saying if I'm Szabo, do I want to sit my whole college career? Kelsey Fien was the ultimate team player and Szabo may indeed be that as well. You remember there were many years when kids only played two years, trained for two then it was their time, those days are mostly over for the college athlete of today, they want to play.
