Catawba College will add a women’s beach volleyball programCatawba College will add a women’s beach volleyball program to its sports program, following a funding gift by an anonymous donor. This will be the 23rd varsity sport that Catawba offers its students. Currently, more than 500 students participate in athletics at Catawba. The funds will provide for the construction of three competitive beach volleyball courts near the middle of campus, according to Larry Leckonby, Catawba Athletic Director. The $250,000 beach volleyball complex is part the Catawba Office of Development’s three-year MIND BODY SOUL Campaign for Growth at Catawba. Any idea who would donate $250,000 for a Beach Program.... that's a big fan of Beach Volleyball

Has NAIA announced that they will be sponsoring Beach as a varsity sport sometime soon? Right now it is a club sport in NAIA. I think that CCCAA did for California JuCo's, but I don't recall seeing anything else.

I'm bad at math but here goes... I believe that makes 6 NCAA schools in Louisiana with beach programs. That puts them in 3rd place behind Cali & Florida unless I try to count Texas schools. Have to be #1 per capita. And LSU is showing they have quality as well as quality. Now, when will Alabama & Mississippi catch on?

Talk around Gulf Shores was that Auburn’s adding in 2021. ‘Bama has been rumored to be starting a program as well, but I haven’t heard anything concrete.

Having talked with Russell (LSU) & Moritz (So.Carolina) plus several indoor SEC coaches, I would be surprised if these schools add anytime soon. There is resistance from them for some reason.

THe lake sumter article listed these as the FL schools: In addition, he said the Lakehawks expect to have plenty of in-state competition when they hit the sand next spring; Eastern Florida State College, Florida State College-Jacksonville, Indian River State College, Polk State College, St. Johns River State College, St. Petersburg College, Florida Southwestern State College and State College of Florida are among the state schools expecting to begin play next year.
