This school should attract some interest from TX,NM, and AZ club players. I could easily see it being the 2nd most desirable bvb school in TX, behind TCU. UTEP is more like a major University, than Kingsville, Corpus Christi, Stephen F, etc.

I go through some of the beach rosters and D3/D2 schools. Sometimes I don't find where any of them played juniors beach or even play in licensed events outside of school. No AVP membership, no record of USAV events. And it's not always the case that these are indoor players.. Some rosters don't have any indoor players on the team. It's beach volleyball, but just a whole different world, in terms of competition. Not judging, I've just never seen this side of the sport.

USF TO ADD WOMEN'S BEACH VOLLEYBALL IN 2024-25 (University of South Florida) Feel like they could start a little sooner than 3 years from now.. but at least the added it. There are currently 86 schools that sponsor NCAA beach volleyball, 64 at the Division I level. Eleven programs reside in the state of Florida, including seven Division I programs: FAU, FGCU, Florida State, FIU, UNF, Jacksonville and Stetson. The Bulls' team will play home games at a new facility to be constructed on the USF campus. Plans and the location for that facility will be announced at a future date. A search for a head coach to lead the beach volleyball program will begin in 2023. USF is currently evaluating options for conference affiliation as the American Athletic Conference does not currently sponsor women's beach volleyball.

www.avca.org/res/uploads/media/SchoolsConsideringBeachVB-10-17-_1.pdfIt's amazing how fast the sport has grown. It's even more amazing how much more it can grow considering how many schools can still jump on board (many on the list still haven't formally announced start dates for their teams). While one of the great things about this sport is that a Pepperdine or a Loyola Marymount can turn into elite programs, from a popularity standpoint, it'll reach an entirely new level once the "big brands" start fielding teams. I think UNC would be a major one. I would imagine it's only a matter of time until the Texas Longhorns take the sand. If Maryland Eastern Shore has a team, I could easily see the Terps start one up, even if it was to give their volleyball athletes potentially year-round opportunity. The Big Ten is certainly prime volleyball territory, and the schools have plenty of football money to make it happen. A selfish question though from a volleyball fan in the NY area; will I eventually get to see an NCAA team take the sand in my area? If so, what would be the schools to start teams up? (Bold prediction: Penn State becomes the first school in the northeast region to start beach volleyball). Arizona State has ice hockey and Maine has baseball and softball, so while climate certainly plays a role in this stuff, I can dream.

Chaminade to Add Beach Volleyball in 2023Chaminade University Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Buning announced Monday the addition of baseball and beach volleyball for the 2023-24 academic year. "This Chaminade University of Honolulu initiative reinforces the co-curricular value of our Silversword athletics to the campus experience," Dr. Buning said. "This decision aligns with the university's mission to serve and educate the local community which has an abundant source of talented interscholastic athletes who deserve the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level while earning a degree and staying close to home."

Love this. There is a lot of local girls in Hawai'i that play beach volleyball that do not get the opportunity to play collegiately so this will be a huge opportunity for them. Wouldn't be surprise if the PacWest picks up beach volleyball in a few years as a conference.

The other obvious missing BVB school is Florida. Will they have to wait for Mary Wise to retire?

I think Mary is fairly neutral when it comes to beach volleyball at UF. But if and when they do add it, I believe she will NOT want any kind of crossover, with coaches nor athletes. If it happens while she is still there. I think all of their efforts, both mentally and financially, are focused on getting football back to national prominence again. i.e., the brand-new football facility they are about to finish, including a lazy river and pool.

I've spoken with some SEC coaches in the past that say Mary actually is the impediment to UF starting beach. I'm sure I was even told what her specific point was for putting up the roadblock, but I honestly cannot remember that detail from the conversation.

I do know when it started becoming more popular, and more and more schools were adding, Mary was highly against it. Not to say that she supports it now, but she is less against it now, than she was. I know she is a fixture there at UF and should have a lot of say in some things, but I doubt admin would make her the be-all end-all when it comes to adding a new sport, if they really wanted to. I mean, it's a different sport...she doesn't have to be involved at all.

I talked to someone in the administration high up, The next sport they add will be Women's Beach. the timing is still TBD, they have had other big projects they are checking off the list. New baseball stadium - done New football digs - just opened another big one hopefully soon.
