I have to sort of agree that Hawaii got a really nice draw. Yes, getting to the regional finals will be tough. Colorado and then CSU at home and if the seeds hold true, Wisconsin in Wisconsin. Hawaii getting shipped off was upsetting but reasonable. Getting a top 10 opponent in the second round was very unusual and I would say that it was almost wrong of the committee.
But I look at the potential match ups for this region and no one really stands out a great deal. Washington v. Penn State will be a great match. USC v. Nebraska will be another great one. Ohio State v. Minnesota would be a fantastic clash of the Big 10 teams. And then, assuming seeds hold, Hawaii v. Texas. Something about that last one just doesn't strike me the way the others do. This side of the bracket is wide open. There really is no dominant team. I would be surprised but I could see a regional with Notre Dame, CSU, Florida or Florida A&M, and Michigan or Rice. Any team in that region is very beatable. No one is carrying around that aura of invincibility. And I think that is what makes it such a good match up for Hawaii, as well as a fun region to watch.

this is hawaii's potential road to the Final Four: colorado (in colorado) colorado state (on their home court) wisconsin (in wisconsin) texas not an easy draw at all (especially cuz colo st will be pissed at being slighted by the selection committee) but i guess if they make it through they'll prove once and for all they can win big matches against tough teams on the road. Seriously, besides Minn/OSU this is the easiest region by far.

(R)uffda! , you said "Hawaii, I think, got a very nice draw. Yes, it stinks they don't get to play rounds 1 and 2 at home, but I like their chances for the Final 4." That's pretty accurate.

. Hawaii getting shipped off was upsetting but reasonable. If you say so. Holding those matches here could have made money for the NCAA. Does Hawaii v. Stanford sound a little better? Assuming the seeds hold? Those are not true seeds but rather manipulations by the committee.

Those are not true seeds but rather manipulations by the committee. We have seen the committee ship teams off before. And they have made it pretty clear in the past the hosting was a privilege, not a right, by being seeded. So, I was disappointed but from the committee, I thought it might have happened. Again, the only real part that upsets me is CSU in the second round. If the committee is going to ship off a team, at least give them a decent draw. Hawaii v. Stanford still doesn't hold up to the quality I hear from the other brackets. Again, I feel that this part of the bracket is the mostly likely to have a bunch of upsets. There is no dominant team. So, Hawaii has a nice chance of making it out.

Right. That doesn't make it "reasonable" though which is what I was responding to you about. But here's the problem: where else do they go? I agree that they could have sent them to CA and given them UCLA's teams (and sent UCLA to CSU), but I'm not sure how much better that is. Plus you then are messing with two teams. They need a new format.

If you say so. Holding those matches here could have made money for the NCAA. Is this actually true? I don't know. I'm just asking. Seems like it would take a lot of revenue to offset the costs involved. 3 teams to the Islands for at least 3 days (probably 4-5). SSC expenses. I dunno.

It would be close I think... Figure Hawaii plays 2 matches and draws their season average of 7135 per match. The other match maybe draws conservatively 3000. Thats about 17000. What do tickets cost? Say about $10 each? $170000 gross? Maybe?

Say about $10 each? $170000 gross? Maybe? All session tickets at CSU are $14. Sell 7K seats at $14 a piece, and you are talking $98K. Now, in Hawaii, I would anticipate a higher price because of the greater demand. If you make all session tickets more like $20 a piece, you are up to $140K.

Are the ticket prices higher than $25 for the set?

I'm not sure about the Student and Senior citizen discounts.

The regionals always sell out so we would be talking 10,000 tickets sold at $13 a pop each for two different days. (This does not count the concession stands which always have ridiculously long lines for their ridiculous ($5 for an ice cream cone) prices.)
And it's true the lower level seating does cost more than $13 a night.

SSC isn't doing this for free, however.
NCAA doesn't get concession $ either, do they?
It'd be interesting to know. I'm sure it would also depend on where the teams were coming from.
