$260,000 on ticket sales for both nights.
NCAA allows what, a max of 16 players to travel as part of the team?
Add say, 4 coaches, trainer, administrator, team managers?
Do they include others as part of a team's group for which travel expenses are covered?
Would 30 people be a reasonable guess?
With the same group of teams that are in the CSU regional and checking for airfare from Colorado I see last minute rates with ~700 being the median. As low as ~$670 and as high as over $800.
So airfaire would be $63,000 with those numbers.
AVCA hotel rates are generally in the $100 per night range before taxes and other surcharges.
So that would be ~$36,000 for 4 nights before taxes and surcharges. Say $40,000?
That puts it up to ~100,000.
What are operational expenses for the SCC?
How much is paid in salaries for SCC event staff?
How much of a meal per diem is given for those the traveling teams for 3 meals per day?
I could see it making money at the SCC, but it sounds like it might be close.

Ok... Going with Island Girl's #s... Lets say 10,000 for both Hawaii matches and 7500 for the non hawaii match.
So 27500. If tickets are at least $13.00 per match we're talking at least $357,000. I'm not sure what expenses are but say $60,000 per team flying over that leaves $170,000 for UH.
Am I close?

My point about the concession stands is that it would pay any SSC costs.

NCAA doesn't get concession $ either, do they?
It'd be interesting to know. I'm sure it would also depend on where the teams were coming from.
I think the school keeps concession money. That along with parking make it a big perk for UH to host.
Is K5 broadcasting the game? Webcasting?

2 from Colorado and 1 from Indiana. ;D
Hahahhahha. Good call Kailua.

This is all moot anyway. But yes, the NCAA would have made $ off of this. (To WHF - That's right. I forgot about the parking, too. And I'm sure it would have been telecast.)

They may sell tickets for both nights AND complete session tickets, but I think 10,000 x $X is your best bet for approximate revenue. And I'll say this: IF they could make money on this, it was ludicrous not to let Hawaii host. I can't think of a single good reason why they shouldn't.

If money could be made hosting at the SSC then the only other "reasonable" excuse I could think of would be in getting so many last minute seats on flights to Hawaii from the mainland.
That, however, has been done in the past so it still doesn't make a lot of sense.

Actually I was asking if Thursday and Friday will be televised on K5 and webcasted. Being stuck at work I would like to be able to catch at least game 1 before I head home. I guess I should've made that clearer.

Also, there are a lot more flights coming in to Hawaii from all over the United States vs. flights going out of Hawaii to specific places such as Denver or Green Bay. You guys don't live here. There are always specials to bring people to Hawaii at pretty low fares, but to get a round trip from Hawaii at a reasonable price can get tricky sometimes.

A quick check on Travelocity showed flights from Oahu to Denver for $671 round-trip. Going from Denver to Oahu was $692. A trip to Milwaukee (fairly close to Green Bay) was $488 -- the same as the cost for going from Milwaukee to Oahu.

BTW, the NCAA only pays for traveling parties of 22 people, includes coaches and players!
