I really enjoyed her insight. She tends to be one of the "movers and shakers" as far as volleyball is concerned. She has been very fairly active in the AVCA and has been a major proponent of some of the major rule changes, like rally scoring and the libero position. She is being very vocal about the tournament. You know that she is upset, rightfully so. I don't think the Purdue coach is going to look too much into it. You know she is upset at her own draw.
As a side note, it is very interesting to hear her talk about the strategy she will be employing against FAMU. It's always fun to hear the coaches talk about what they want to see done in the match.

I think Iowa should have been chosen for the tournament. They got shafted.

Mary's last show and secondary comments on the same-what a relief! They go to the FF , she has a radio show and she wants to publish her take to the volleyball world. She should be laying low after the finish to this season and hope for the best.

Coach Wise has always been a straight shooter. Her comments are refreshing.
Speaking of Missouri. They can thank Sarah Reesman for their seed and pairings.

Dave Shoji jokingly said that he would be fined by the NCAA because of the comments that he made. It seems like Mary will be right there with him I think Florida got the worse draw in the tournament. I can't believe their 1st round match up. At least Hawaii has a relatively easy (knock on wood) 1st round. What was the committee smoking this year? Hawaii, Florida, Washington and USC took hits in the seeding, theonly thing to do is play well as all these clubs are capable of doing.

Mary ends by saying that Stanford, Florida and FAMU were all deserving of top 16 seeds and that this is by far, one of the most challenging sub regionals, not for this year, but in the history of the tournament. I can't argue with that at all. I was so focused on Hawaii's regional situation that I didn't notice Florida's matchups. Hawaii got screwed by being sent on the road to Ft. Collins, but UF, FAMU, and Stanford in the same subregional? Whew!!! If Mary gets fined by the NCAA for her comments, I'll be one of the first to send her a donation to offset it. She, like Shoji, deserves to be pi**** off.

Thanks for posting these comments by Mary, GatorVBall. I've always had a lot of respect for her. It's nice to see other coaches unafraid to call a spade a spade and just tell it like it is.

Mary is first class all the way. They'll win in spite of everything. Texas may be a fight but they'll do it. Can't wait to see the matchup with Hawaii!!!!!!!

None of the outspoken coaches have to worry about fines. They are not denigrating the NCAA, they are pointing out valid problems with the selection process. Thankfully, we have that little clause in our constitution about freedom of speech.

From today's Gainesville Sun
It happens in every NCAA Tournament, in every sport. At least one team is bewildered at its seeding or placement in the 64-team bracket.
That time is now for Florida's volleyball team. Despite a No. 5 RPI and a 27-4 record, Florida was not given one of the top 16 seeds Sunday night in the NCAA Tournament, and as if that wasn't stunning enough, was sent packing to Tallahassee for Friday's first round. The Gators will face host Florida A&M, winners of 27 straight matches and the only team in the country to beat the tournament's top seed, Nebraska.
How did this happen to Florida? Sharon Cessna, Director of Championships at the NCAA, said Monday it was time for a change. A site was needed in the north Florida region, but because the Gators weren't awarded a top-16 seed and had hosted first-round matches the past 13 years, Cessna said the committee felt it wanted to put its sport on display in a different arena.
"Not that it was the driving factor, but one thing the committee always looks at is the opportunity of other communities to be involved in the sport," Cessna said. "So they basically gave (Florida A&M) that opportunity, but also allowed Florida to stay close to home."
Some compromise.
But what really hurt the Gators in their endeavor to start the tournament in the O'Connell Center (besides losing the conference tournament title to Tennessee) is the parity this year.
"If they were not in the top 16 (seeds), they were knocking on the door," Cessna said. "If you talked to the committee, they'd say the parity is increasing in women's volleyball and it's getting harder and harder to seed the top 16 teams every year."
True, but to leave Florida out with a No. 5 RPI and a national ranking of No. 12 in the coaches' poll seems extreme. Still, for a team that traveled to Europe this summer and spent more than a week on the road due to Hurricane Frances, a two-hour bus ride isn't a hassle.
"We just look at it as, 'Hey we're just going to Tallahassee,' " senior Lauren Moscovic said. "There's no plane flight."
This Sharon Cessna is an idiot. There's no way anyone on that stupid committee could look anyone on the Florida team in the face and honestly say UCLA, Wisconsin and Missouri are top 16 seeds and Florida isn't. Stupid. Bunch of retards looking out for their own best interests, not caring who they screw over. I think they forget they are screwing over young women with the stupid moves they make.

She also mentioned the 2 losses to Northwestern. At 16-14 with several bad losses, they didn't deserve to be in. She also said Arkansas, a team from her own conference, didn't deserve to be in either. She wasn't just picking on Purdue, but Purdue does not deserve to be in. Wins over GaTech, Illinois(2), Wisconsin and Valpo are good, but they don't offset losses to the teams mentioned above, as well as a loss to Wake Forest. Purdue was gifted into this tournament. It's easy to say "this team shouldn't be in" but you always have to ask, who should have gotten in instead? And then you have you put their record under the microscope like you did the other teams. SMS? They lost to Arkansas. Edge to Arkansas. They also lost to Southern Fargin Illinois, which is far worse than any team Purdue lost to, and their best win was Illinois St. Western Michigan? Lost to Marquette, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, ann Marshall. Good wins? They beat Michigan but that's all. etc etc etc We talked about this before the brackets came out, the field wasn't deep. It's easy to take pot shots, but still there had to be 64 teams in the tournament. Who else should have gone?

I love Wisconsin, and am upset that Mary does not have any class what so ever. If she has a problem with Wisconsin being seeded, play them sometime. I would be than willing to invite Florida to Madison. She has been given trips to the final four for the last few years, now she has to play some quality teams to get there. As far as Purdue goes, if Purdue was in Florida's path, I gaurentee she does not make those comments. Purdue was 5-1 against teams ranked between 10 and 25 in the RPI, that is how they got in. The had three bad losses, but they played great competition every night. I saw Purdue play in the Badger tournament when they beat Missouri and Georgia Tech and when they played Wisconsin twice. Purdue is a top 30 team easily when they are healthy. Also how can Mary call out teams in her own conference for getting in. She should be happy when anyone in the SEC gets in. Mary has to remember that SEC champ Tennessee lost to Michigan, the last team out of the Big Ten to get in the tournament who only had one quality win, and that was Tennessee. Mary has some real psychological problems and needs to grow up.
