Watching the Hofstra game. What did PSU gain from their preconference kickoff? They could have just scrimmaged themselves 3 times. It’s a young team. They will benefit from putting on the uniform, warming up, and seeing what matches feel like. It’s helpful before they hit the Pac 12 challenge matches to have this experience. Also, I’m sure there are some scheduling challenges to first weekend. A lot of top teams want a couple matches to ease their way into the season. Lower ranked teams are happy to try to upset you. Not much to lose scheduling a team like penn state. |

Is Jenna Hampton still at PSU? Kind of surprised she lost her DS role.
She played in all 3 sets versus both Hofstra and Witchita St. She didn't play against Holy Cross, but a lot of other DS's came in for that match.

Can't believe there wasn't as single PSU player who got B1G POW honors last year?! Especially with Jonni Parker getting B1G FOY? Congrats, Kaitlyn!

Simone Lee and her mom made the trip to Ames Iowa on September 7th to cheer on the Penn State Women’s Volleyball team in its match against the Tigers of Louisiana State. Simone kindly agreed to spend some time with us talking about her upcoming pro career in Japan with the Kurobe AquaFairies of the Japanese VLeague, about the influence of Coach Rose on her as a player and a person, and about her experiences training with the U.S. National team. Our Slacker Staff has added very limited commentary (a limited effort from the Slacker Staff. Shocker, right?). Note that our staff is famously reluctant to check their own work, let alone the work of others. So mistakes invariably creep in. Please let us know if you spot one (or several). Steve Manuel is a Penn State professor and a great photographer who kindly shares his work with DigNittanyVolleyball. There’s that old saying about a picture being worth 1,000 words. I think in the case of Steve Manuel’s photos, it’s even more. We've posted five photos from last night’s match with Pitt at Rec Hall, and two more he just sent from the Stanford match on September 13th. I know some will differ on this, but to me, these photos say last night’s loss wasn’t about lack of effort. We've posted updated tables showing Penn State’s individual and team stats for setting, serving, serve-receive and digs as of 9-30-2019, along with companion tables comparing Penn State's team and individual stats with those of Wisconsin. For what it's worth, given the schedule differences (I think Wisconsin has played a much tougher schedule, though I don't know what Pablo has to say about that), I don't think the statistical differences tell us much.
