Didn't like Velocity at all (except for the netted courts). Such a weird layout of the building, super crowded between courts so you could barely get through, always a line for the bathroom. Temp control wasn't great! Limited concessions. So loud! We could hardly ever tell whose whistle was being blown. Palos heights was so musty. Bothered my daughters asthma/allergies something terrible.

Bothered my daughters asthma/allergies something terrible. I knew I couldn’t be the only one with issue at Palos! I swear I felt so bothered in there and this was awhile ago! You’d think they’d improve their HVAC system or something. One wonders how many kids are affected during play time by whatever is in the air there.

Sky High was very well run yesterday and there didn't seem to be any issues with parking or the facility. I was there and thought parking was not a great situation, when I was leaving there were cars parked blocks away. Sky High is a nice facility, but it'd be nice if they put something up to kill the noise in there. It was pretty loud. It might be the first facility I have been to that actually kept it relatively warm inside. Usually places are freezing. Energy was so warm on Saturday that during the first match, I took off my fleece. After that, I think the owner turned the heat off as I needed it back on by the 5th match. All these places in warehouses are going to be loud (unless they install noise baffles in the ceiling like at GLC).

Is anyone familiar with the new "bracket"s that WCPL seems to be using for 15/10 Open? It is accurate that top 3 move up, middle 2 stay in same and bottom 3 move down a bracket for the next day? have to say, if that is the case, I like that style!

Yeah, that's the old Great Lakes Power League format. Seemed like everybody that defected did so with the condition that the format came too. For everything that is wrong with that club, they got the volleyball stuff right a lot.

No doubt if the Butlers weren't abusers they would be the model of how to run everything from training to tournaments. I have not seen the bracket placements in actual writing, but I expected it to be the top 3, middle 2, bottom 3 situation and it seems to be true. Some major issues with slick courts this past weekend as we hit mid day both Saturday and Sunday.

The locations got noticeably colder as the day went on and the courts got slicker as the buildings got colder, especially near the concrete walls. It seemed like they were just too cheap to turn the heat up?

I have said before, you need to know what you are looking for and monitoring temperature/humidity inside and outside buildings that size along with what roof vents you have open. Once your walls/floors get condensation there is literally no fix, it takes hours to rectify it. Inexperienced people can mess that up so easy, and turning the heat up could potentially make the situation immensely worse. However Illinois in the last couple weeks has experienced temperatures that even some of the parents in those gyms have never felt before, so many of these places with people lacking knowledge paired with an act of God just spell out potential disaster.

We've played GLPL a few years, and we ended up playing the same teams over and over and over sometimes. At least in round robin you get to play the other 15 seeded teams in your pool without repeats (unless a tiebreaker/challenge match is needed).

Problem is if you end up in the wrong group of 16 teams. You end up getting thumped for 15 straight matches or winning a bunch of blowouts.

I can see both sides of it. bad seeding weekend and you could have horrible round robin pool. It will be interesting to see it play out. She is excited to see that each gameday is its own tournament and that they can move up or down based on how they do. She is not all that excited that in 11 matches so far, they have played 1 team 3xs and another 2xs. btw, it looks like WCPL did a decent job of keeping locations relatively near each other from one day to the next. Cursory look at couple of divisions seems like Crystal Lake then Vernon Hills, or McCook then Lemont. I did NOT see any games in INDIANA...

Despite the smell, I found reasons to like Palos - Space to watch games, and to get around other courts, bathrooms upstairs and downstairs, decent concessions, all courts netted, Mama Vesuvios a few steps away for dinner or drinks... I'm not a great fan of their concessions but I agree on the other points. Feeling sick after going there every time leads me to believe there's some ventilation issue or something. However I do like the ability to sit up high or courtside. Never been to Mama Vesuvios, will have to check it out if I end up going there this club season. Thanks for the recommend.
