Maybe FIU needed to play a tougher schedule? They played a tougher schedule than Stetson both in East region and overall....

Not a bad day for UH sports. Women's water polo team beat UC Irvine for the automatic bid to the NCAA's, and the Sandbows get an at large bid to the NCAA's. I hope they post a selection show watch party video on twitter.

I’m just making a barely educated guess, but if FIU is neck and neck with another program for a spot in the tournament, I think the committee isn’t inclined to give Rita the benefit of the doubt, as it were.

Maybe the West got 5 bids this year because of the East showing from last year? 2 out of the 4 East teams were eliminated on the first day, including FIU. Although, if I remember correctly, the FIU vs USC elimination game was pretty close (3-2).

CP is peaking at the right time. If they can keep their emotions in check , Jones & Miric are probably responsible for that, watch out.

I say FIU earns the #3 East Region Bid for these reasons: 1. They win the H2H criteria 2. They have a stronger SoS 3. They are tied with CommOpp It's who you play and how well you do against these opponents. The head-to-head win is big. FIU also did what they should have done at their conference tournament. It doesn't really matter what your overall record is if you don't have a decent SoS. Stetson's Significant wins aren't really looking that great anymore with S.Carolina being so inconsistent this year and with LBSU faltering a little. However, the LMU win is looking better now that they won the WCC. I say FIU. Stetson also won their conference title and have done well down the final stretch. The committee may want to have a representative from ASUN...but I am not sure that is using the criteria?

I would be inclined to guess that FIU lost their bid due to their lineup issues throughout the season, the team in their fives at CCSA looked bad and they had competed in the 3 earlier in the year, similarly, Denney/Hughes had been as high as the 1 and as low as the 4.

Anyone know how they calculate SOS or ROI? Is it same as basketball? Yes, SOS is done similar for both sports. SOS is the average of opponents win percentage for all matches. "A team's opponent's winning percentage (OWP) is the average of the opponent's winning percentage with one modification. For each opponent on a team's schedule, that opponent's record does not include the game with the team in question. So, after a pair of team's first game of the year, their opponent's winning percentage will both be 0. If you play a team twice, each game, and therefore each team, is counted separately for this calculation. For instance, if a team is 5-2, and you played them twice, winning once and losing once, one record will be 4-2, while the other will be 5-1. For volleyball, the team's winning percentage is a simple winning percentage. In men's and women's basketball, the committee modifies the wins and losses based on game location. " This info is available from NCAA or www.ncaastats.figstats.net that does a great job of duplicating NCAA Womens Indoor Volleyball SOS and RPI

Any one catch what may have happened?

[quote source="/post/2058849Norene put on twitter (I think) that the CP parents were lousy winners. Any one catch what may have happened? Maybe After winning BW championships 3 years in the row Norene forgot that complaining after you lose is actually lousy. CP is a small college (8000 students) and fans were excited for their achievement. According to P1440 commentators some of HU pairs were getting "junior beatings"and that could be the reason Norene felt that way.
